Question:
Anybody out there do this so that the front left and right speakers are looped back thorugh their normal hi-fi 2channel amp.
In terms of setup how much more involved is this and how do you go about getting the timings/sync and volume level correct or do you have to go through a mini-setup each time you use your system.
Obviously the reason I ask is since I have quite a good amp I was thinking of keeping this and adding an AV amp just to power the front mid and left and right rears.
If the AV has pre-out then this can be used with a power amp (or an integrated amp set to correct volume and left at that volume) to drive front speakers.
The friend I sold my old Yamaha to had a couple of Arcam power amps hooked up to it, one to drive fronts and one to drive rears, then just drove the center from yammy and got it to do all the processing.
My Pioneer has full 7.1 pre-out for use with off-board amps.
Yes, I do this. I have a Yamaha DD amp and a Marantz 2 channel amp. I connect the Pre-outs from the Yamaha to the AV inputs on the Marantz. When listening to CD, I just have the Marantz on as usual. With a multi channel source, I set the Marantz to the AV input and the volume to 12 o clock position. The Yamaha deals with all volume control duties then.
In terms of performance, There are no timing issues and as long as your amps are of similar output power, you should have no problems with volume/tonal balance.
