Question:
Im after a good sub i have a budget of around £400 and ive heard about a REL storm a mate says theyr really good! any idea's what to look out for in a sub? and what models are worth looking at?
How about a Velodyne CHT10 that has been getting rave reviews over at www.avforums.com (http://www.avforums.com).
A link to a review EDIT Ah, I can't sort this hyperlink out, see the thread below... :(
I think even Baps has ordered one. Uncle Eric was doing a power buy on this model for under £350. A bargain.
Sub woofer? There's only 1 brand - REL!
Looking for one myself. The Rel Q150E just won the What Hi-Fi award for the last 2 years running but several people on the AV forums rate the Velodyne as a better option.
For £325 delivered via the power buys I'm rather tempted.

I haven't ordered one yet, but as soon as a few of my casino transactions get settled I will (don't forget the subwoofer cable deal, uncle eric has added to the power buys as well..)
:norty:
I should be getting my Velodyne CHT-15 (£684.00) on Monday, thanks to Uncle Eric!
Uncle Eric has tested a lot of subwoofers over the years and he says that the latest REL's are nothing special.
The last one he thought was good was the Q100E which I'm about to sell due to the Velodyne I'm about to get.

Don't believe the hype ;)
Did you order this blindly or have you auditioned other subs? I'm really tempted by the Velodyne Eric is offering for £325 - not sure I need the bigger model with my Catle Harlech floorstanders.
Eric seems to know what he's talking about and has obviously compared them to the RELs so it might be worth a go.
nigel_williams - I'm going in blind..
Might be joining you Bap.... I really can't be arsed to compare all these different subs especially since none of the local dealers stock all 3 on my shortlist!
My local dealer recommended the Vibe Alpha 2 for £400 - it's downward firing and a bit big... but is remote control :)
I'm looking for a small sub to enhance the sound of my system since moving to a projector. I could use it just on the centre channel, bit of a bargain at £325.
My sub has just arrived:clap:
Earlier than expected. It's a big bugger!
Can't wait to test it out now.

I bought it blindly. From guys on the avforums who have bought the 15, they can't fault it, and that goes for the CHT-10's aswell.
I'm inclined to give it a go based upon Eric's and several other user's opinion of the sub. Although I've spent nearly £5,000 on equipment this year (Sony VW11 and Arcam DV27) I think the CHT-10 will be sufficient..... and it was pay day today!
I got my Velodyne CHT-10 on Friday. It replaced a Yamaha YST320...........It's miles better :rocker:
I cannot believe it's only £325 delivered........that doesn't mean I'm going to send Uncle Eric some more money though :p
EDIT I bought mine blind. I thought that after people thinking REL was the dog's, then to change their opinion to the Velodyne being head and shoulders above, well that was enough to persaude me.
A few people have upgraded from a REL and been very happy although I think it was to the better CHT-15 model. I'm inclined to trust Eric's recommendation - I don't think he'd be pushing it if it wasn't any good!
Think I'll get a demo of the Vibe Alpha 2 and REL at my local Hi-Fi shop this weekend then decide.
Let me know how it sounds after a few days of running in.... I'm sure it will get even better!
I'm shocked at the size of the CHT-10.. look at JulesH's..

Doesn't *seem* that big when you read the specs.. my missus will go spare..
It's the same height if not lower than my old YST320. Same width. And a bit longer. Mine's hidden under my HiFi rack.
