Question:
I should say that it has been raining quite badly the last few days, allthough not as bad yesterday as the previous day.
I turned on Sky last night around midnight, and found I couldn't get many channels. I turned the box off and on a few times, but still most were missing. I went into services and saw that there was no signal being received (even though I could get itv1, hallmark and a few others).
This morning everything seemed to be ok (all channels back), when all of a sudden the channels went again - again no signal being received.
I called Sky and went through the engineer's menu stuff, but nothing could get the channels back, and I couldn't do a re-install. They are sending an engineer round on Monday which is great, but not if I wanna watch the football this weekend.
Is there anything else I can check to see if there is something wrong I can fix myself?
Well all the channels came back around 2:30 with signal strength 60-75% and quality 25-33%.
Sometime between 3pm and 8:30, the channels went again.
Nothing to do with this (http://Here.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=126194) thread is it..?
Well, all those wires looked so similar... :o
Just my bloody luck it goes today - I've been trying for months to get my telewest TV subscription cancelled, and when they finally get their ass in gear it coincides with Sky falling down and Liverpool Vs Leeds on Sky Sports...

If these are the only channels you could get its a fault with your LNB (the thing on your dish that collects the signal and send it down the wire to the box).
The channels you mention are on a different setting (someone will know the technical reason) to all the others Sky Sports, Movies, BBC etc. The dish is unable to pick these up.
I had the same problem in the summer, but mine was caused by direct sun on it so the LNB overheated, your comment of rain on it is more common. It may need more insulating tape around where the LNB and the wire join.
If you are still under guarantee in first year (luckily I was) just complain and get them to replace the LNB. Since doing this mine has been fine.
They're coming on Monday to fix it. The weather makes a difference - mine was bokked this morning in the frost, but after being in the sunshine for a few hours it worked ok (I managed to catch the match after all).
I'll mention what you said about the LNB to the engineer.
