Question:
Hi,
I've got the Pioneer 717 which I purchased from Techtronics about 3 years ago... By and large it's served me proud until recently when I've had a fair few problems...
The latest one, I've just discovered, is that the E-Mod supplied by Techtronics doesn't seem to work anymore meaning that Macrovision is now enabled and it only plays R2/0 discs...
Help!
I've had the lid off (no warranty anymore) and the mod is still in place and looks OK but that's all I dared do as I'm technically challenged...
Has anyone else experienced similar problems? What did you do? Is there anything, that is within the abilities of a techical spaz like myself, that I can do to sort it? If not - is there anyone that you know of that will chip it cheap as I'm quite attatched to it now? We've been together for years and she introduced me to pleasures I never thought possible in the dark ages of VHS. :norty:
Did you have to activate the mod when you got the player? Or was it ready to go?
I got a Pioneer 414 from techtronics, back in 1998 and it's still going strong and working fine.
This seems odd though, is it possible somehow in the menus it has been reset to R2 only? Did you have a power cut or anything?
You're right... It is odd.
I had a problem with the power supply in the machine a while back but I'm almost positive that, since I got that fixed, it has played R1 discs OK.
I suppose it's possible that the chip has somehow turned itself off and I'll, somehow, need to switch it back on again... I don't know how or why this will have happened though. I'm gonna need to dig out the E-Mod instructions then - I reckon.
The thing that's worrying me though is that the Macrovision is also off - so I don't know if that would suggest a problem with the chip itself.
Have you tried removing the E-MOD and starting up the player. Then turn if off re-install the E-MOD and start-up the player again?
Nope... OK, I'll give it a go!
I've never had an probs with my E-MOD (touch wood) but I did find out by accident that if I set it to a non-default region (i.e. 1, 3,4 etc) and removed the E-MOD, it would be as if that was the default region.
So I just thought by removing and switching on, it may reset the problem. If that doesn't work, then I haven't a clue and it's mostly likely the E-MOD ist Kaputt!
I've had the chip out and discovered the problem... Assuming I didn't knacker it when taking it out (possible) then the 4 bits of solder attaching the mod-chip to the circuit board, on one side, are all broke...
This would account for all the functions of the mod-chip not working - Region Free & Macrovision Free...
Looks like I need to find someone a bit handy with a soldering iron... If that doesn't work then I'll need to get it re-modded.
:(
Ah well, at least you've found the exact problem.
