Just picked up an Acoustic Solustions 421 from Richer Sounds. First one I had had some picture stuttering, had it changed out with no problems.
Both of the players though wouldn't play my VCDs or SVCDs. The player can read the same make of CD's when I burn MP3s onto them, so I don't think its a disk issue (tried 3 different makes so far)
The player looks at the disk and reports "Wrong Disc". Several other people on the net have reported the same problem.
Is there a new firmware out? Has anyone else seen this problem? Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix it?
i think on the new batchs of this models have had the vcd,svcd playback disabled.
i have the 451 in the kids bedroom when their first came out, & their play everthing you throw at it

There is indeed a new firmware, due to licencing restrictions :(
But it can be removed with a simple hack :)
It's based on the region free hack (Push setup, then next, previous, next previous).
Select region 255 for region free.
Press down until you get to 5001 - change this to 5000 and you're away.
Changing the other numbers to 4000 and 3000 disables macrovision and parental codes.
