Already has, although no manufacturer at the moment (other then arcam) has commited to offering any updates, although Marantz are considering a update for their new Dv4300 and Dv8300 models....

What is pal progressive scan?
I thought the whole point of prog scan was to eliminate the NTSC conversion symptoms on our PAL TV's???
What is the point of PAL Prog scan?

Answers:

It de-interlaces the picture so that each each frame is sent in it's entirety. It dramatically reduced the effects of jagged lines and in some cases improves the detail.
The main benefit is to plasma or projectors.
Have a look at this article, it explains all you need to know:

captain, progressive scan has nothing to do with ntsc/ pal conversion on your TV. To put it simply, normal TV viewing is interlaced (alternate frames 50-60 per second - flickering alt lines), progressive scan is non-interlaced (one solid frame, 50-60 per second).
it means a more detailed and solid picture with less line structure, higher resolution and as claimed by some manufacturers significantly brighter output. basically a much better picture, even compared to rgb scart or std component in.
have a look at http://www.progressivescan.co.uk/interlaceddisadvantages.shtml
and in particular http://www.progressivescan.co.uk/images/progressive04.gif
PS is only really of use if you have a large screen TV or projector though.. anything above 32" at a guess. If you dont have that size screen, its of little or no use. If you do, then its the best quality you can feed to it from a standalone DVD player.
the harman kardon dvd 25 has just had new m/r firmware posted thats pal progressive capable... £350 or less.
pretty sure Justin sells them if you ask him nicely... a special forum price could shift a few of these now I reckon. Justin?
