Question:
Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes.
I'm looking for a good digital satellite receiver, and have been recommended to buy the Manhattan Skyline 3000 at around £200. Also looking at a Starlight 7800 given it has a built-in 40Gb hard drive for £330 approx, but would like to know if the recordings can be 'ripped' from the drive for DVD burning, etc.? Also, can the hard drive be upgraded?
Thanks for any info.
I used to fit Sat/cable etc for about 10yrs, gave up about 5yr ago, but still hobbying.
The Manhattens have always had a good rep and were usually upgradeable. However have a look at Echostar,- fantastic bits of kit.
I used to have the SR7700 when it was analogue then switched to the AD3000 something or other :) digital with built in positioner (the real one with 36V) . Great unit.

I was meant to be getting a Skyline 3000 when my dish was being fitted, but it was out of stock....
So I have a Strong 4355 Evolution instead.
The Skyline 3000 looked very nice indeed, but I'm very happy with the Strong. I
For ripping pvr stuff to PC, the gbsat 2ci60's get very good mentions and reviews. As far as I can see you can connect the receiver up to your pc and mount it as a FAT drive.

my Dad has an Echostar AD3000IP and it's very nice - used to mess about with it all the time - i think there's a newer model out these days tho
Manhattan 40Gb has Irdeto cam patched for all-cam as well.
I'm not sure if this receiver records the broadcast to the HD in it's pure scrambled form or if it records it after descrambling ie you may need to have a card in there at all times.
Recording to DVDR should be fine through standard AV out connections, though ripping direct to PC in digital form is something you won't find on any receiver.
These are very new receivers indeed but at the price you've been offered I don't think you can go wrong. They have an "ok" image as far as satellite recievers go. Remember 7800 is diseqc only.
What would I go for personally ? DVR7000HDD Echostar. :)
