Functionality or asthetics?
Question:

OK here's the deal. I've been working on my set-up now for some time and I'm slowly but surely getting there. I have at the moment got a seperate pre-amp/AV processor connected to 2 matching 2 channel power amps giving my front & rear, left & right channels. I don't have much need for a sub as my system has enough bass as is.
Problem is though, I want another amp for the centre channel as this is redundant at the moment. Should I get another Klout to run the centre channel as it would look better and just use one of the channels (possibly bi-amp my centre/add a sub later) or should I just get a mono-amp which wouldn't really match?

Do whatever results in the best sound. If you want something nice to look at, hang a picture ;)

I would, for one - and even if I didn't my fiancée certainly would!

Don't forget the WAF / GAF factor. They don't tend to understand the beauty and necessity of stuff like hi-fi and home cinema...

Yeh, but the thing is if it the amps I've got are great, so buying another one would look good as well as sound superb, but on the downside, it would cost more than necissary and leave me with a redundent channel also.
What's WAF/GAF? Bit of a hangover this morning, and can't be arsed to work it out. I guess it's something to do woth wife/gf.

Correct: Wife / Girlfriend Acceptance Factor.
There's the Kef eggs [and the new pro-versions] and the new 4" balls of the Gallo speakers, whicch are getting superb reviews.
Me? I have a 5.1 Dali Blue series which is big and bulky [:D], but as it's in a cherry beech finish [and matches the rest of the shelving in the room] looks far better than it would in the old hi-fi standard of black.
Boink!

I own a Denon A1SR & a Denon A1 dvd. They are both far too big, far too heavy, the a1dvd is exactly unobvious being gold in colour. It's obvious that asthetics have nowt to do with anything.
Just in case though I built myself a glass cabinet to hide them in.
Now all I have to do is to hide my CDM9T speakers!

So it looks like I should go down the cost effectiveness route then and get myself a decent mono amp and hide it away oh, hang on just thought of another problem, my amps are all remotely switched on/off by the AV5103 system controller/processor/pre-amp thingy, does anyone know if this will only work with other manufacturer's amps or does it only work for Linn ones. It really dosen't seem to take much, there's just a standard phono connector so I think it's just controlled by a signal level change, but I could be wrong.
By the WTF are CDM9T's ljp? They must be monsterous if you have to hide them.
Oh, and GAF isn't a problem, we don't live together so I can do what the hell I wan't [OK sorry dear I'll remove that line later - yes dear I know you're the boss - no dear I didn't really mean it:o]

Answers:

Hasn't the 5103 just got a 12v or 5v output on the back that will power a relay thus enabling everything else to be controlled from that single source?
here (http://www.bwspeakers.com/products/gallery/product_details.cfm?object_id=419DBF1B-EF4D-11D3-B01E0000E20E7DA6) is a link to the B & W site - make be not a good idea hiding these away!!!

Answers:

I thought that's how it works, I presume that even if another amp didn't have the remote in, I could design and build something.+
Oh those CDM9T's... nice... certainly wouldn't hide them.

Just get/make a cabinet with smoked glass doors.

I built myself a cabinet as the local bespoke furniture maker wanted £600 to make one :shocker:
If you know someone with the right tools its very easy. (honest)

Answers:

Thanks for all your help guys, I was gonna biuld a cabinet anyway, but I like the look of the Klouts so I'll probably have them on show and hide any ugly bits I have. Not too bad at the old carpentery myself and I know wher I can get all the tools so it shouldn't be too big a problem.
