Just Found Ondigital Box In Bin!
Question:

Just found a Pioneer Ondigital receiver in the rubbish bins where I live!!!! Plugged it in and borrowed an ondigital FTA card from a friend who has an integrated digital tv thing. Now the problem is I don't have the remote - didn't seem to be in the bin (!) so I'm trying to work out how to use the box without the remote or the manual.
I have plugged everything in and tuned the TV to the box. I can access the ondigital menu and have searched, found and stored a bunch of channels.
If I go into the getting started menu I can select a channel to watch. The box then switches to that channel and I can see it fine. Problem is, I then can't get back to the menu by pressing the menu button on the box. The only way I can change channels is to switch the whole box off, wait for it to start up, then go to the menu and select a new channel.
Is there an easier way to change channels??!! Is the above behaviour of the box normal?
Can someone please provide some advice?
- can I get a cheap 4in1 remote type thing which I can use to control the box?
- am I likely to get an on-digital remote from anywhere?
- can I get the channel changing working without using a remote?
etc. etc..

One For All Digital £24.99 From Argos works perfectly

As you've found out, the buttons on the front of the box are a bit rubbish.
As mentioned above, the One For All should work. If it doesn't you can always take it back...
Oh, and you don't need a card anymore.

do you have a pronto?
if so there are loads of pioneer IR settings about (same as me)
And lucky you, even 2nd hand the box should get you up to £30

Thanks for your advice guys. I will get a One4All from Argos.
Yeah I couldn't believe it - just sitting there - brand spanking new. Mind you, the week before me and the gf found over 300 NEW hardback books in the same bins - and really good quality stuff too! We put them in suitacases and took them up to the flat - the RRP on the books added up to £3000 :shocker:
We bumped into the person thowing them out on the way back :o - she was a publisher thowing out review copies etc.
We are going to try and sell them thru a second hand book dealer.
Sadly, I now can't go past the bins without taking a sneaky peek in !

Blimey, where abouts are these bins? :D
You had a right reslut with that Ondigital box.
Just a thought but does your TV have one of those learning things where it can get the remote to learn a similar device?. Might save you 20 notes.

You can take that card out and give it back to your mate if you want as (I'm sure he'll be able to tell you if he still uses his box) you don't need a viewing card for the free channels (that's just a Sky thing).
Just thought I'd let you know.

OK update - got that 1forAll DIGITAL remote from Argos. None of the codes in the manual listed for Pioneer worked.
So I went to their website and it said something like;
"The code for your Pioneer OnDigital box is 0329. Please contact customer service in order to perform the upgrade"
Put the code in, thinking all would be dandy, but it did not work.
But WTF are they going on about re: upgrade
I have vague recolections that I had this problem with a 1-4-all years ago and you had to hold the remote against a normal telephone and they sent a code down the line to update the remote - no I'm not joking - so I assume this is what needs to be done?
Any one got any more info?
Also - bought a scart lead to plug the box into the telly but the TV does not display anything. Is there a setting on the box I need to change to "re-direct" the output signal???
Cheers

I believe you might have to send the remote off to OFA so that they can update it as this is what they wanted me to do with my OFA Lite (but I declined as they were actually going to replace it with a better remote but one that I didn't like the look of - the buttons were all over the place). Also this service would've cost a tenner, though I'm not sure if this included p+p or not. BTW this was for a Sky box (all but the Sky+ box use the exact same remote codes) and not the Pioneer ITV Digital box you have.
Things have moved on since then but I believe most OFA remotes are still like this and only the more expensive ones have the built-in modem that gets the codes via the phone or downloaded .wav files.
IIRC the Pioneer boxes have funny codes anyway and have been problematic for many people with universal remotes and things like TiVo (and before anyone says I'm thinking of Pace cable boxes, I'm not).
It might be worth doing a search on Google for "Pioneer" AND "universal remote" AND "codes" (and possibly) "problems"

Chemical Brother - you're spot on - called up One for All and no my remote does not have a modem, only the pricey ones, and my only option was to send it to them, just paying for the P+P.
It's annoying because the lady said the software in this remote - which is sold specifically for set-top boxes and sat tuners - is so out of date - codes are from some time in 2000 (!!!) - so the pioneer which came out in April 2001 is not included.
I will take it back and either get the one for six - which can be updated as you say - or possibly get a replacement remote for ~£20 from one of many sites that seem to offer these.

THX - assume you have the one for six and had to get the codes downloaded ?

You could always go into Dixons, and claim you've lost the remote.
Get them to sell you a cheapy learning remote, and get them to learn the remote settings there and then! They should have a Pioneer remote handy.
Alternatively they might have a spare one from a demonstration model you could 'borrow'. :nono:

Searched the Pioneer web site and found out that original remotes can be ordered from their distributor - www.seme.co.uk.
Phoned them up and they will send me one for £21.
I just hope that it works OK!
