Question:
I recently bought Amelie in Virgin's 2 for £20 deal, and noticed the DVD has a DTS soundtrack, so decided to select DTS on my Digitheatre (first time). And the problem I'm experiencing is that occasionally the sound will cut out for a fraction of a second, but you do detect it, and gradually it gets annoying - any ideas on what's the problem? :(

What DVD Player you got?
Got the Sony NS400 DVD player. messed about with the settings, if I switch DTS off, then I can't activate DTS on the digitheatre, so I think that side is ok...
Do the dropouts happen when you are listening to the DTS track or when switching from one soundtrack to another?
My Digi DTS drops the sound when switching soundtracks as it needs a second to decide which format it's decoding.
Nope, it happens once the DTS track has been selected, the drop outs aren't at consistent intervals either...
You need to get in touch with Videologic. This is a well known fault & they will get you to send the sub bit back which they will replace with a new one.
Matt
Yes, sounds similar to the problem i had. Have you got a copy of Cast Away or the Mexican (R1) you can try as those were the worst offenders for me?.
How old is your unit?, i had one of the earliest models, models that lacked a firmware upgrade or somesuch that had trouble decoding certain DTS tracks.
Basically email videologic, explain the problem and they'll sort you out a replacement.
On Cast Away & Mexican the drop outs were mainly musical, all the loud action was fine but when any musical score kicked in my unit just kept clicking or popping. Very distracting so if this sounds similar get in touch with Videologic pronto who should come out and pick it up and replace or repair it for you.
I had this problem with my very early unit. A couple of months ago I finally got off my arse and phoned Videologic and they requested I send them the sub.
Two weeks later a complete new silver setup arrived on the doorstep.
Best company for customer service around IMO.
Pretty much same thing happened to me, although it wasn't a silver one. I got a whole new system minus the 4 speakers.
Fantastic customer service, so i've now got two remotes, decoders and a bunch of other stuff. :D
Thanks everyone, I'll email Videologic today, and hopefully get a reply soon! Its going to be expensive posting the sub isn't it.
I haven't chipped my DVD player, so can't watch R1 dvds, but your description matches mine. Hopefully will get a whole new system!!!
Cheer!

They will pay for that, at least they did with me. They get UPS to come and pick it up from your house.
Excellent! I've also received a reply from them - gotto ring their CS now.
Thanks all!
Cool let us kinow if it goes OK, and what they send back :D.
I felt really guilty when i practically got another whole system.
Will do Robby!
p.s. They're picking up the unit on Friday!!
UPDATE
Exactly a fortnight later, and a whole system has arrived back from Videologic (what superb Customer Service!!) . However before I unpack the system, does the silver version suffer from the same inferior power supply (makes a low audible humming noise when switched on)? I'm contemplating selling this brand new and boxed DTS system, and spending a bit extra to get a Yamaha HTIB45, what do you think? Shouldn't I bother or what?
I'd appreciate any advice. :)
I have had a Digitheatre DTS now for a couple of years and it has done sterling service. I will go for a dedicated amp and speakers one day but for the money I think the Digi DTS is excellent. I also had the DTS problem/sub distortion issues with the first one I got and I experienced the same level of customer service as noted above. Indeed an excellent company to deal with.
Matholwch: Personally, i'd try it and see what you think. The new subs don't have the hum problem. Having said that, I think if you can stretch to separates then that probably is the preferred way to go.
Ta Ron! :)
Glad you got it all sorted OK. They are a fantastic company for CS. I guess it's pushing over 2 years i've had my Digitheatre and despite some newer models, that all singing/dancing Dolby pro-LogicII system doing the rounds, i don't feel the need to upgrade.
It's never caused me any grief (other than the original prob) and everything sounds great.
I just need a bigger TV
