Question:
Nipped into Currys and they had a Sony 740 DTS and DD receiver and speaker set up for £280, it was last in stock hence why it was cheaper then usuall £390.
I tried Contact DVD on it and it sounded miles better then my videologic, its 440 watts total RMS so its more powerful by far then what i have now.
Anyone else got this set up.
short answer...yes
long answer...very much so :D
EDIT- I was answering to the original system the Brad asked about
thanks
:)
up due to changed title, I now have a decent receiver.
:)
hmmmmmm just set this all up and im getting no sound whatsoever, ive connected the dvd player to the amp via an optical lead.....is this ok.
why im not getting any sound apart from the test mode.
ok ive got it working now, how come the amp only does dvd sound through a coaxil lead, my digitheatre was connected via an optical lead, isnt an optical lead for sound better then coaxil or is there no difference.
what is the optical lead for on the sony amp then if not to connect to the dvd player for sound.
:)
Brad, you nipple - you could've got a Marantz 4200 and a decent set of 'proper' speakers for not a lot more..
:dork:
Wot he said
money is tight at minute so it was half on finance and half cash down on 6 months interest free. After Christmas I can just upgrade the receiver and swop it straight away for my present one. Then after a while upgrade the speakers as well so nothings lost.:)
If that was the situation I would have waited until after Xmas - it is only three months away, after all - and gone straight in for a proper upgrade rather than **** about side-grading like that...
Think you might struggle to get rid of that receiver for a decent price, btw..
But if you're happy wasting your (limited) funds like you've just done, then that's all that matters..

What Videologic did you have Brad?, the original or DTS version?
the original dolby digital one, although it was the newer upgraded silver version.
:)
Well ive just set up the configeration, speaker distance, speaker height properly after hogging the instruction manual and Ive just put on Blade (the first part) as a tester and I heard things I never heard on my digitheatre:eek:
It took me a few hours to set it up right and all I can say is wow. The difference from my digitheatre to this is amazing. I never knew people spoke in the night club scene in Blade, even the doorman speaks when she says something to him in vampire language at the start when she says "hey pustashis", he replies, i never heard this before and in the night club too.
Plus it helps if you have the rears wired properly:rolleyes:
The 450 watts is more then enough and I only have the dial just under a half of the way. I also tried Independance Day as a tester and that rocks too.
Now why did I sell my copy of Saving Private Ryan.
