Is there any "all in one system" that does well against seperates
Question:

Ive been looking at the Sony Dav S550 and some other surround sound all in 1 systems but i cant decide if to go for the all in one or seperates.
Is there an all in 1 system that performs well against the entry or budget level DTS receivers.
I need DTS, Pro logic 2, abit more power then my 6.5 watts per channel digitheatre and be in silver. Also if it has a DVD player as well this has to be multiregion.
The reason why im not sure about seperates is my budget, if i get a seperates set up I want a decent one and the total cost of speakers, wires, amp will be a lot more then these all in one systems.
One thing im concerned about with thye all in one system is the length of speaker wires as my front speakers are farthest away from the amp etc as all my AV equipment is on a stand at the back of the room under the projector.

The TEAC reference 350 series sounds amazing and may be worth checking out. It does DD5.1/DTS but not PLII.
It's around about £500 from richersounds.

You can get a fairly decent Amp / Receiver for about £300, you can also get a good DVD player, a Sony DVP NS-700 for under £200 from Richer Sounds. This is multi-region and by all reports very good.
A £300 Amp / Receiver will come with satalite speakers, usually between 60 - 70 watt. Speaker cable is generally long enough as well.
So if you budget stretches to £500 I would suggest you get separates rather than a £500 combo...

After a friends experience with a DAVS500, I wouldn't touch them or Sony for that matter.
At the end of the day, speates in 9 time out of 10 cases out peform single box systems. The only exception I can think of is the Linn Classik Movie System, but that costs £2k and excludes speakers.
Believe me, put a little effort in to seeing what separates are out there and you will get a better result over a single box. You'll enjoy it for longer and as the technology moves on you won't have to bin it.

I thought that too, until I checked out the mini systems from TEAC and Denon.
Go down to your local hifi shop and ask for a demo of them - I guarantee you'll be stunned at the quality from the tiny boxes.

I have a Pioneer NS-DV55 All-In-One system, and its awesome. There are the NS-DV77 and DV88 out now, but I paid £600 for the DV55 about a year and a half ago, and its great. Awesome DVD quality, and great sound quality through any source, although not as good as my stereo for CDs. It has DD and DTS, and they can be picked up for a few hundred quid now, so give it a go.

Check out the Acoustic Energy Aego P5 system (What Hi-Fi 2002 winner) for about £460.
You can add your own decent multi-region DVD player to the setup.

I have a Sony DAV S500 and unless you are a 'perfect pitch' listener, the sound quality is more than adequate.
DTS from this small box is excellent.
My own opinion only.

On paper the new Pioneer NS DV1000 looks great, DVD-A and SA-DVD in the one package. Shame about the £1300 though. Perhaps Justin can cut a good deal?
