I did try to burn the ISO from that site onto a CD-R, but it wouldn't play on my Wharfedale DVD-750S.
PM me on paulw77@hotmail.com if you'd be willing to burn a copy for me.

Yes you can, though you will need a DVD drive and Power DVD or equivalent. I managed to use a CD-R and copy them all over from the site, though some of the VOB files, (these are the ones you need to be downloading for the multichannel sound), are a little shaky.
Found this ages ago thanks to my good friend Clayts, have to agree, superb site - though i have just been given a bona fide original copy of the 'THX, Ultimate Collection' DVD, which i've seen exchanging hands for around $500 dollars on ebay.com!! The disc has dts and dolby sound options, and best of all has clips of Indy and Star Wars, (all episodes) in dts!! Top disc indeed - very very rare...
Westy
Westy, are you saying you managed to record muti-channel sound onto CD-R our am I reading that wrong?
Yes, it gets recorded as a VOB file, not as standard audio.
This isnt impossible if that's what you're thinking, remember DTS Cd's still exist!

Oh, so how could I go about doing this? I have a CD-RW drive, a copy of Nero 5.5 and WinDVD...
(Scratches head trying to remember:) )
As far as i remember, you should just burn the file as normal - i had to rip the audio from some of them, but most if not all played back absolutely fine - with the exception of the 'Egypt' and 'Game' trailers which were a little stuttery.
Like i say, haven't done this since last year, drop a mail to clayts@area450.com and he'll take you through the correct process - he 's the one who told me!
Sorry for the vague info - i don't use the burner much...:)
Anything to do with audio, home cinema, no problem.
Computers, you've got to be kidding!
Westy
I thought the .vob file contained everyting and i just burn them as i would a normall .vob file and they would be fine? ive made dvd's with dobly 5.1 before so i should imagine DTS should be no problem. am i right?
Thanks westy.
For those of you that burn the DVD's, do you just dump the .vob file straight onto the DVD-R directory? Or does the disc need a certain file structure?
Exactomondo!!
That's it, just rip the file straight over and you're away.
Westy
Excellent, think I will give this a try tonight then... :)
Westy, just had a thought, how do you play these CD's? Is it on a DVD Player or on your PC?
Will someone burn these all onto DVD and then send it to me?! I really am tight for cash but if i can do anything for ya i will do! As long as it don'tinvolve drugs etc.

Right, I have a CD-RW, and from the above posts, I still dunno if its possible to use CDRs for this?
If I burn the file(s) to a CDR, will it work on my DVD? if so, do I have to do anything to the file?

Thats what I wanna know
So does anyone know the answer???????
No, you need to create a mini-DVD, Dont ask me how, I have no idea :p
Kippas right.
You need to author a mini dvd with a prog like Spruce or DVDit.
I think the latest Nero (5590) can also do it.
My player will not play mini dvds so check first on vcdhelper for your model. I will have my dvd-r for next week so will let you know if anyone is interested.
Downloading them all now.
BTW there is no reason why you cannot get multi channel sound on CD. The only limitation will be the bit rate.
If I had a DVD Burner - for example - and *.VOB files , how do you go about burning in such a way that the DVD player will recognize it as a DVD - also - if I burnt some of the files onto a CDR/RW would that not be the same, but just on a smaller capacity disc????
Just noticed, in the menu at the side, they have them as avi's and mpg's so you could just download them and stck them in a CD.
only in stereo though presumably?
not much of a system tester if so?
But can't you get AC3 with Mpegs?
At the bottom of the download page there is a link to an ISO for a mini dvd in both PAL and NTSC for those who are unable to author one themselves. 300 Mb + though.

Gram - Can you do me one as well please mate?
ok anybody who wants one mail me at getme99@btinternet.com and when they are done I will let you know. May take a few days cause I have never done a DVD with multiple clips and such.
Guys can u give me an idea of what clips you would like included? I was gonna do 2 DTS 2 THX and the rest DD?
Edit: Sorry just realised u can't do DTS on a DVD so it's gonna be DD and THX only, unless somebody knows otherwise?
I'd like to see the Crimson Rivers THX trailer?
Hi Gram99,
What prog are you using to author?
Some of the clips are PAL and some are NTSC. Can you mix these on 1 disc or would they need re-encoding?
I've not done much of this as you can probably tell. :dork:
I am using Spruceup and the NTSC-Pal thing shouldn't be a problem. Here is the trailers I have put on the disc.
Dolby Rain
Dolby Egypt
Dolby Game
Dolby Aurora
Dolby Canyon
Dolby City
Dolby Train
Dolby Presente En Dolby Surround
They are all available through a front menu and all apart from the surround one are in 5.1 DD. As I said anybody wants one mail me at getme99@btinternet.com
Any chance of the DTS and THX ones on there as well gram ??
You've got to ask haven't you ? :p
Edit : Sorry gram, just read your earlier post about not being able to do DTS - what about THX, there are a few of them (TEX, Moocan etc etc). ?
Ok here is what the finished disk looks like, all the trailers are in DD 5.1 as I couldn't do THX or DTS. I have just listened to them and they really help show up any weaknesses in your setup.
http://members.lycos.co.uk/grahamfin/dd.JPG
oops forgive the white box to the left I am hopeless with jpegs!!
Well I'm gonna try the mini-DVD - on its way down now. Will stick it on a DVD+R and see what happens........:)
If i download the mini-dvd and burn in onto a CD-R will it play on a dvd player properly?!
Im just asking cos im skint and don't want to pay for the proper stuff hehehe...
Regards,
C.
Oh for a DVD Recorder and Burner...
i have a pretty decent set of surround speakers connected to my computer and i don't think those demo's are as impressive as many a well mastered dolby digital film soundtrack. if you are the type that feels the need to habitually test your system's capabilities, you'd be better off using a scene from one of your dvd's - the bank heist out of Heat arguably being the most impressive in my collection but i'd imagine those with loads of action films will find plenty of possibilities.
cool.. cheers for this.. downloading them all as we speak :D
i presume i am gunna need some dvd authoring software to make a dvd (well a cd with dvd files on it) out of these...
:edit: dammit just cued up all the files.. didnt see the iso's at the bottom :D:brickwall
Ar$e - the mini-DVD won't play on my DVD player - was doubtful as it don't like CDRs at the best of times. Now if I can get it onto one of the DVD+R s I have next to me.... ;-) Anyone know how with Nero?
hi...
Sorry to drag this thread up.
Now that I finally have dolby Digital and dts and all the gubbins, I want to make a demo disk, but I don't have a dvd writer... :brickwall
I know there is a way to do a mini dvd, but I don't know how to do the menus etc, does anyone know how??
I have Nero 6 if that makes any difference.

:norty: Very sexy mate :D
I'm gonna give this a go anyway as I could do with learning how to do it myself. :)
I'll mail you when/if I need your help :)
What am I missing?
What are your trying to download? the link just goes to a news page
I think it's the page under "Trailers > 100 Trailers" Duncan.
But like you I haven't got a frickin' clue really...
Duncan, click the VOB Trailers link at the top of the page it links to.
I'm using Adobe Encore DVD or whatever its called try out.
I've made a menu but can not make the links...
As my mate Westy says, I found these about two years ago and burned them all to a data CD-R as straight .vob files (see the bottom of this page (http://www.area450.com/firmware/unofficialdve631cf.htm) at Area 450 written in May 2002 :).
Anyone with a DVD player that has a MediaTek MT1369/1379 or 1389 chipset should be able to play these back without having to convert to DVD format first. Some ESS Videodrive chipsets also handle raw .vobs too :)
I doubt it'll work mate as I have a Pioneer system... :(
My pioneer plays mini-dvd's..
saying that, I can't get the files to download.. Anyone know the password?
I don't think there is a password mate, there wasn't earlier!!
With the risk of sounding cheeky, can anyone send me a dvd-r of these, living in the countryside with a 28.8K connection, it would probably take a year or more to download them. Happy to pay costs etc.
Um, I know this thread is really old, but I'm trying to get hold of a disc with decent demo trailers on it.
Is there any chance one of the kind fellows who have offered in the past could see their way clear to helping me out? I will of course cover all costs
You could always buy the demo disk from the Dolby store, in case no one here can help:
http://www.dolby.co.uk/dstore/euro_items.html#exploreourworld
Is there a DTS demo disk aswell?
Although saying this, I don't want to buy one as its not as if I'm going to be using it a lot!
I might have another crack at this soon.
I have the minidvd_pal.iso which is a collection, plus other assorted DD2.0, DD5.1, DTS and THX testers which I've completely given up trying to author onto DVD properly.
I'll happily burn all the raw .vob's and the iso onto DVD if anyone reckons they can sort it and would send me a working one back if they get a chance?
i'll give it a go if you want, email me
Phil

That Dolby demo's crap i got it free of charge when it first came out and was pretty disapointed by it. The Dolby Demo before that one was better cause it was actually pretty intresting with documentarys and featuretes abvout cinema sound and dolby.
The Thx and dts demos's are the best ones to got for cause, they both use film clips and the thx ones in both dts and dolby. The creme de la creme of the thx demo is of course the Complete podrace sequence in dts.

I think it's the page under "Trailers > 100 Trailers" Duncan.
But like you I haven't got a frickin' clue really...

Answers:
You could always buy the demo disk from the Dolby store, in case no one here can help:

Is there a DTS demo disk aswell?
Although saying this, I don't want to buy one as its not as if I'm going to be using it a lot!
I might have another crack at this soon.

I have the minidvd_pal.iso which is a collection, plus other assorted DD2.0, DD5.1, DTS and THX testers which I've completely given up trying to author onto DVD properly.
I'll happily burn all the raw .vob's and the iso onto DVD if anyone reckons they can sort it and would send me a working one back if they get a chance?
Answers:
i'll give it a go if you want, email me

That Dolby demo's crap i got it free of charge when it first came out and was pretty disapointed by it. The Dolby Demo before that one was better cause it was actually pretty intresting with documentarys and featuretes abvout cinema sound and dolby.
The Thx and dts demos's are the best ones to got for cause, they both use film clips and the thx ones in both dts and dolby. The creme de la creme of the thx demo is of course the Complete podrace sequence in dts.
