Anamorphic 1.66 ?
Question:

I bought a DVD which is stated to be anamorphic 1.66
When I played it on my TV 16x9 the image fitted the all screen.
So it means the DVD is in fact anamorphic 1.77.
I do not see how a DVD could be anamorphic 1.66.
Did you see one ?

Answers:

The anamorphic frame is 1.78:1.
On DVD Anamoprhic 1.66:1 films are slightly zoomed out, this shows tiny black bars to the left and right of the picture.
As most TVs overscan (normally they overscan by around 5%) the black bars get hidden. (much like how the tiny black bars above and below anamorphic 1.85:1 gets hidden).

Answers:

Well in fact I set my player to 4/3 letterbox and then I found out that the picture is indeed 1.66
I guess it is the way the player is made when set to 16x9 it just skips part of the picture and convert 5x3 into 16x9
