Question:
Hi all....
Hope someone can help. I have a Pioneer DV-535 DVD player and a Technics SA-DX930 amp. I have the player connected (audio) to technics by quality Optical cable. When i select DTS on the amp all i get is a flashing Dolby digital log on the amp. The films ive tried are Pearl Harbor and Gladiator (both DTS). Ive tried all settings on player and amp but cannot get it into DTS mode. Anyone help please..? lol
Thanks...keith
Have you enabled DTS out in the DVD Players setup menu as many players ship with DTS bitstream output disabled.
Also is the player region modified, as some cheapo mods disable some player features.
yes...DVD has been modded for multi/r (before i got it). DTS is selected in player setup and on amp....still no joy though
May sound stupid, but have you remembered to select dts on the disc's menu?
Another question which may sound stupid, but your amp does support dts doesn't it. I've noticed that many other Technics ones don't.
Whoops, just re-read your earlier posts........sorry. :dork:
Yes..DTS is selected on both the player and the AMP..... cant understand it.... im stumped.. OH... and yes both units support DTS... well at least they have the stamp on them...lol
I have the same DVD player, and have not had any difficulties playing dts through my receiver (Yamaha) which auto-detects the signal (or can be selected manually)..
As someone else asked, are you sure you have selected the DTS track for those particular DVDs?
i.e. You can swap between the different sound-tracks by pressing the [Audio] button on the remote control.
Probably too obvious!
I have selected DTS on pioneer.. DTS (on-off) = ON. What exactly do u mean by: " are you sure you have selected the DTS track for those particular DVDs? ".... Also does anyone know id the Technics amp io have will accept Digital Coaxial..?? i cant find it on back.. it may just be optical..
Thanks again all...
You generally have to go into the films menu and select the DTS soundtrack - usually under audio or language options.
It may be that you are setting your receiver to DTS but as you haven't selected DTS for the film, its outputting DD so you're not hearing anything.

You will only get DTS if you are actually listening to a DVD which has a DTS soundtrack, and you have selected that soundtrack from the available ones on the disc.
yes...the films i used are Pearl Harbor and Gladiator...both DTS. U say that i should select DTS on the film ( u mean the actual dvd disc.. or the Pioneer..?). I have selected DTS option on the Pioneer player but not sure what you mean by the disc..

You need to select it from the film's menu. When you put Gladiator in and its run through the animated intro and you've got the menu up with Russell Crowe, there's options like Play Movie, Chapter Select, Languages, etc (can't remember exactly as I'm at work!) - you need to go into Languages (I think - may be Audio) and select the English DTS soundtrack other wise it will just output Dolby Digital.
If you're still having problems, I'll check tonight exactly what the options are...
Hey Joe Precious.... your right mate....lol :o) .. God how could i really miss that silly option :o(( thanks again... and the SOUND is truly AWESOME..!!!!!

Cool - glad you've got it working.
And Gladiator's a good disc to check DTS on - its probably the best soundtrack I've heard!
