100Hz bad?
Question:

Before coming onto this forum I always thought that 100Hz was responsible for picture improvement and overall better viewing. However, there is always negative response on this forum toward 100Hz. Why is this, and from what you've heard, what is wrong with 100Hz?
Thanks for your time and input

Nothing's wrong with 100hz - I've lived with mine for 2½ years now, with no probs - even football (people's main gripe) is fine..
Only trouble is now when I watch a 50hz set, I can see the flicker..

It's personal preference. I like my 100hz as well and actually think the footy looks better for it. Each to their own I suppose

I had a 28" WS 100hz and was perfectly happy with the picture, but I don't watch much football. That set went Tits up, not tube related, tuner was duff, and I replaced it with a 32" 50hz, with which I'm equally happy. (More so in fact but that's a size thing.)
Personally if I was looking for a new Telly I wouldn't stress about refresh rates, I'd just go with what looked best to me at my price point. Most retailers, in my experience, are quite happy for you to stand around for hours comparing their wares.

There's nothing wrong with 100Hz, its the motion smoothing and signal processing that leads to most complaints about blurring especially in sports.
I have a Sony 100Hz and I spent a while trying out the various 100Hz modes. The most active mode applies a smoothing to motion that iterpolates extra frames from the previous and next "real" frame. On pans it can make the motion unbelievably good, but on fast moving objects you get trails.
Eventually I got sick of seeing trails and switched to the next level down which turns off the motion compensation and I'm very happy with the picture.
That said I've never seen much wrong with 50Hz either.

Cool, and thanks guys for your input. Now I can be a happier man as I'm going to pick up my Sony KV32FQ75 (http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/297_616306.html) right this moment. It can also switch between 50 and 100 Hz so I can downgrade if I have to for things like football. But whatever, we'll see. Cheers for your help, any comments on the Sony DAVS400 DVD player???
