Manuals or details on receievers?
Question:

Recently, I brought a Philips MX980 receiver. However, the manual is more or less complete pants. A search on the Internet brings up nothing of much use...
So, does anyone have any ideas where I might find more information on this? (Even the Philips website is sparce on details...)
Cheers...

What information do you need..?

Well, the manual and website have sparce details on the exact specs of the receiver...which I really am more interested in now. I know pretty much what is does and doesn't do, (wouldn't have brought it otherwise), but I don't have exact specs anywhere.
Also, there are a number of functions in the menus, and on the remote that the manual doesn't mention anything about. Or in some cases only very little. For example, it says nothing about night-time mode, even though it is on the receiver and remote. It salso says very little about the virtual surround options, for example, when using front virtual surround (to make a wider image from the front speakers) the sub seems to deminish or stop working. There is no helpful info in the manual for this…
That more or less covers it, but I think there were a few other things I was looking at last night, that I can’t remember at the moment…

Virtual surround modes=the devil's work.
Avoid.

Most manuals are a pile of crap mate...
Nighttime mode is normally a setting that reduces the dynamic range (less volume change between quiet dialogue & loud explosions) - ideal for nighttime viewing when the kids are asleep..
And as Icebun said, avoid the dsp modes as generally they are all ***** and make your living room sound like a cave..

Okay, thanks for the info then... :) Need to get some speaker stands for the front speakers then, to make a bit more distance between the left and right...
Oh, and on nighttime mode...is this only supported on certain DVD's or will it work for anything?

nightime will work on any disc - the receiver does the jiggery pokery !

It'll certainly work on DD discs, not sure on DTS ones..
