Harman Kardon DVD 25 Opinions?
Question:

Hi!
I want to buy a DVD Player that supports NTSC Progressive Scan but doesn't cost £700+ The HK DVD 25 looks and sounds great, as does the forth coming Marantz DV4300.
I have been searching various Forums and Web Sites but there doesn't seem to be too much info on the HK. I was wondering if anyone here actually has one and can give me an idea on general performance and answer a couple of questions!
When the player is set to Prog Scan/NTSC and you play a PAL DVD I think it converts the PAL signal to NTSC and outputs it as a Prog Scan signal. What is the picture like compared to a Interlaced PAL signal through the Components?
When playing a PAL DVD on converted Prog Scan is there any sound sync problems (or anything else that may be detremental)?
Does it play DVD-R's?
What is it like with Audio CD's?
So many questions, if anyone can answer them or just give me a bit of feed back i would be very grateful.
Thanks:)

there was a reasonable thread at avforums with some of this info in.

the rumoured pal progressive firmware is just that - a rumour. it would be nice though if the sept/ oct ratification thing happens.
the new marantz and also toshiba 510/520 (whichever available) are worth checking out.
have you considered importing a philips q50 from hivizone?

Thanks for the reply. My TV only supports NTSC Progressive so the PAL side is not really of interest - in actual fact a player that does a PAL-NTSC conversion is of more interest but I would be keen to see what the converted PAL picture looks like compared to a regular PAL Interlaced one.
I'm not keen on the Tosh 510's looks (picky, but I do like a good lookin' player in my rack!). The 520 is of interest, as is the Marantz - will need to wait for some reviews/comments.
I quite like the HK styling, I just don't want to go for an player which I know little about and one I can't get a local demo of (I have always had Tosh/Pioneer of which there is plenty of info) - without having a little feedback...
