Question:
We were going to invest in a midi hi-fi system for our daughters bedroom (birthday pressie, soon to be 6), but seeing as she as quite a collection of DVDs on the go, thought it might be a good idea to get a "cheap" all-in-one DVD package, as she tends to watch a video[sic] in bed etc... at weekends.
DVD player will need to be multi-region, ideally with no known play-back problems (Disney etc...) and be able to play CDR/MP3.
Any suggestions?
Argos are doing a BUSH DVDAV7 Home Cinema System, which inc.. DVD player/5.1 speaker setup for under £150 any feedback on this appreciated.
Might be worth looking at either the GRUNDIG GDV620-HT (£169 @ Currys, Dixons etc.) or GOODMANS DVD3500PK (£199). Both easily hackable (see http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/hackable.asp?Page=10)
Both seem to have reasonable reviews and will play Audio CDs and DVDs etc. Small speakers should be fine in bedroom setup. They look quite nice too. I am getting 2 of these for my 2 new teenager bedrooms that are currently being built.
Or what about a Videologic Digitheathre DD only for 140 notes and then a cheapo dvd player say a Dansai or Cyberhome. Should do the trick and sound good!

Bleedin hell kids don't half get spoiled these days........could you pick up a better branded All In One (Sony DAV300 or Pioneer NS-DV55) for less money now that they have been superceded? May need to shop around a bit though - what I am saying?, get the cheapest one you can find and sod whether it is any good or not - it is only for your daughter (who I presume is not a home cinema afficionado?).
Cheers, I'll check out the Grundig and Goodmans setup(s) in a moment, didn't realise this thread got ressurected.
Currently considering the LIMIT DAVS400 (http://www.richersounds.com/cgi-bin/productInfo.cgi?sid=718f2d00a.123456&productID=6048).
The Grundig one seems OK, does anyone know if it can play CD-R?
Local Dixons/Comet etc... had no Grundig systems in stock, and Richer couldn't guarantee a delivery in time for Wednesday on the Limit setup, so we opted for the BUSH DVDAV7 all-in-one package and hoped for the best where CD-R was conserned, got it this afternoon and of course I needed to have a quick look to make sure everything was above board ;) and low and behold right across the front of the DVD Player (model: 1005) was a ugly scratch mark which you couldn't help but notice due to it being of a reflective nature, other than that it "looks" like a nice little player and it DID play CD-R on checking....the missus as just gone to return the player to Argos where a replacement is now waiting. :)
I shall give it a quick going over this evening to make sure it plays all discs (R1, RCE etc...).
