Question:
i bought a tosh 220 from empire direct and it wasn`t multi region so i sent it off to be chipped...when i got it back it was multi region but i couldn`t get a picture thru component.. i asked the guy that chipped it and he didn`t have a clue .. so my unlce wanted a dvd player and doesn`t need component so i sold him my one and bought another tosh 220 but from somewhere that does the multi region already(unbeatable.co.uk) when my new dvd arrived i plugged it in and still no componnet output..its definatley not my tv or leads as i have tested with other component sources...i also rang richer sounds and they said the company they use to multi region their players (tri something)have confirmed that the way they chip them doesn`t disable the component output …so I went up there and tried it it in the shop…the man tried for 30 mins to get a component picture up but no joy :( i guess the multi region upgrade knocks out the component video somehow??
please help
thanks
jason
JJ, I have a m/r SD220 but have no need for the component video as I don't have the required kit to take advantage of it, so I can't say what might be wrong with yours.
But AFAIK component is basically the same as RGB and unless you have a DVD with progressive scan (the Tosh doesn't) AND a TV with progressive scan AND watch R1 NTSC DVDs, then it's no advantage at all.
Stupid question I know, but you have selected the component video output in the DVD players setup menu?
I have a multi-region tosh 220 and use components to my tosh RPTV - great picture.
There is no "component option" under the tosh setting. What you should do is go to the picture output settings and select composite or S-video. In these settings the Tosh will output component as well. If you select RGB output then this will disable the component outputs.

I didn't know that, my Sony 725 does, thats why I thought I'd ask.:)
ragnar,
it was a good guess however this little quirk of the tosh can be quite annoying as the first thing everybody does is switch to RGB and also component is an RGB signal of a sort, and this really confuses the heck out of a lot of people. ah well, worth it in the end because the picture into a component set is fantastic.

what a dumbass i am.... ive just tried it by switching the video output to svideo ..then hey presto the component is working thanks epritchard...the reason i want component is cos my denon3802 supports it and i have a component lead for my gamecube aswell so i can switch using the amp :)
thanks again

Glad it worked  Funny coincidence, I've also got the Tosh 220 with a Denon amp (2802 or 3802 can't remember  ) The only trouble with the Denon's component output is that it doesn't pass through the amps on screen display. You still have to connect a normal s-video or composite connection to see this. Not realy much of a prob as I connect my DVD direct to the TV anyway to avoid any losses through the amp.

Probably not a lot, but less is better and there no point spending up to £xx on a cable if your going to put it through a switcher.
please help
thanks
