Question:
My parents moved into a house that already has a minidish installed. The previous tenants did not leave the box, so the dish is all they have. Also, the previous tenants have taken the outside aerial with them  (is that normal?!?) so my parents can’t watch any TV. Is it possible to just buy a box so that they can watch the normal terrestrial channels without having to pay monthly subscription?
I called an aerial company, and the guy said that he can sell us a second hand box for £75 and then all we will need to do is call the BBC and get them to send us a card to use with the box which will enable them to watch BBC1 etc...
Is this true? What’s the best/cheapest way to get the terrestrial channels?
Sorry if this sounds dumb... I know nothing about these things.:(
Thanks...
anyone?:smokin:
If you just want the terrestrial channels, BBC1, 2, ITV, C4... and you don't fancy doing a Rod Hull impression, then just wander down to Currys, Argos etc and pick up an indoor powered booster aerial and plug it into the back of the TV....
I have tried those powered aerials and they dont work well in that area. The signal is really weak there so they will need to pay for the full Aerial installation. Just thought it would be easier and quicker to buy a box, and maybe later even subscribe to some pay channels...

Q. How do I get a viewing card to watch the BBC via satellite?
A. If you have satellite equipment and just want the BBC and other free-to-view channels (or if you stop subscribing to extra channels) you'll need a viewing card to decode the signals. To get one free just call 0870 243 8000 (8:30am-11pm daily).
