Marantz sr4200 - surround modes
Question:

Yes, I'm back again with yet another question on the Marantz amp.
Just wondering about the different surround modes on the amp - most of the time its straightforward - auto for dvd (for dd or dts), stereo or DPL 2 (music) for cds.
But what the fcuk are the other surround modes - hall, matrix, game etc?
Surely if you're watching a vid or just tv it would be always preferable to choose dpl2 instead of these surround modes - since I'm guessing they just spead the whole signal throgh all speakers? - or am I completely off the mark as per usual?

DPL II (Music) is best for Music and non Dolby Surround stereo sources (e.g. TV or console).
DPL II (Movie) is most effective with stuff that is broadcast and tapes in Dolby Surround Sound. Also DVDs with Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtracks. It's not so good with other regualr stereo stuff.
I love DPLII
As for the rest of the surround modes, I haven't bothered with them. Useless.

That's what I use.
I just wanted to know what the other modes were intended for - ie hall (okay, that's pretty obvious), matrix(??) and game (is this ideal for a console, or for a football match on tv?)

Answers:

They're just gimmicks IMO, but use whichever one you think sounds the best. ;)

I've never used 'em, they're just gimmicky "effects" like previously said. Just give em a go you'll soon see :oh-hum:
