It's possible that the following may yield some results..
Unplug
Hold down open/close and play
Plug
Release open/close and play
Press Menu
Press 9
A load of Hex digits should appear on screen. Work is afoot to find out if any of these digits set the region... I will report back if and when I find out what is going on.

Press 3DPhonic, Menu, Menu
Press Choice
Put machine in standby using front panel switch, and wait 5 sec.
Turn on machine.
This hack releases the Frame Rate lock so you can watch NTSC format VCDs without speed up and crap sound....
Still working on the MR though...
