Anyone got those sky "video link" boxes for upstairs TV direct from SKY
Question:

Ive just joined Sky and its arriving on Thursday. I was told you can get a box thingy that you attach to your upstairs TV and it sends the sky signal. I bit like a video sender. Anyone got one of these sky video senders, are they ok, can you change channel through them too.
I was told they are about 30 ish pounds direct from sky

cheaper from somewhere like letsautomate (http://www.letsautomate.com/10570.cfm?CFID=76466&CFTOKEN=36117380).

Do you mean the Skylink? This uses a coax cable to send a signal to the tv upstairs and receive a remote control signal back to the box. Sky charge about 70 quid for this install, but you can get the receiver for 7 pound delivered if you already have the coax in place (or diy it) and know how to activate the setting in the service menu of the sky digibox.

Its £34.99 with remote control which I would need for upstairs. Easy install it says. Also on my tv upstairs I only have a scart and ariel connection, will I still be able to use the link gadget.

Hi
To clarify... All you do is run a coaxial (aerial type) cable from the back of your Sky digibox's RF2 connection to the TV upstairs. Usually easily done by drilling thru the wall and popping some cable outside the house and then drilling thru again by the bedroom. You then connect the cable to the Sky Eye and the Sky Eye to the TV. This then sends the remote control signals to the digibox so you can change channel upstairs.
£34.99 seems a little expensive. Send me an email and I'll sort you out for closer to £20... mail@andrewbartley.com
Hope this helps

The one sky has doesnt require any leads going through walls or owt, its just like a video sender isnt it, I dont want wires everywhere.

Sky's one is wired Brad.

Only thing different to the sky link is that it has a remote transmitter built into it as well (which only works with the digibox of course). Other than that, its the same as a standard RF extension cable.

oh great, so i will still need to connect sky's link box from my sky box to the upstairs TV with a wire????????
so it not like a video sender then.

Answers:

nope, its designed to work over a coax cable from the\second port on your digibox

Answers:

Yup you definitely need to run coax cable inbetween. I used to have this but found it wasn't very reliable, sometimes it would change channels sometimes it wouldn't.
I've now got a video sender with no such problems, a better picture and stereo sound (the tv link is in mono). I'd go with a video sender.

Have a look at grandata.co.uk the link is only 6.50 and mine is 100% reliable and very fast at changing channels on the remote.

can somebody explain to me how a video sender (not the TV link) works?
