Question:
My local Argos have them both at £69.99 (the Bush have £20 off)
So really which one would be the better one to buy?
(do have a DVD on order from Richer, but if they let me down, i`ll go for one of these)
Just need it as a 2nd machine to play the usuall stuff.
Thanx for any info.
There isn't really any reason for my answer, but go for Bush if you have to. Bush imo is better than alba. Not that i own any of their equipment, but i used to have an alba cd deck and bush deck, alb went in weeks, the bush lasted until 10 yrs later.
Regards,
Craig.
I've just purchased an Alba DVD-108 from Argos as a present for my Mum's birthday. Suprisingly good player. Its a lot better than my Wharfedale DVD-750. And it's multi-region out of the box, oh yes, and it plays DVD-R's created with my Panasonic DMR-E20 too.
As regards quality vs Bush - Alba, Bush and Goodmans equipment use many of the same components and are assembled in the same factory, so theoretically there shouldn't be much of a quality difference.
thanks, for the info, when i saw this offer it was the bush 2023 on the shelf, today it`s a bush that isn`t in there books?
maybe somebody made a BIG mistake.
Actually the Alba 108 Is made by MiCo in china all Alba did was badge this player up with there Logo.
It's based on the MiCo Clasica 20 DVD player which got the Best Budget DVD player award from Home Cinema Choice.
THX:)
Argos lists the alba as stereo...is it? ie no dd output at all?
It does output DD but not DTS. Also, it doesn't have a DD decoder built in.
thx - where did you see this fact?? that is a £30 saving over the classica 20 :D

Cause I just bought one for my Mum, and damn good it is too for £70.
The RGB picture is very good quality indeed.
Might be a bit of confusion - I was wondering how THX knew that the Alba was the same as the Classica 20??
Because having just got my 4th Mico player you tend to notice the similarities in Players,What i meant to say was it is based on the Clasica 20 it has the same menu and Functions apart from no DTS output.
Multiregion straight out of the box RCE friendly,Press the GOTO button a few times while loading a SVCD\VCD and you have playback of these 2 formats also use a non fully wired Scart lead for No Macrovision.
It's a Badged MiCo DAV-108.
THX;)
I just bought the alba as a second player. It's a fine machine for the price. Not as good as my Wharfdale 750S but much better than the rather crap Proline I got cheap from woolies for my parents.
Bush and Goodmans are just badge names of Alba, and all of their DVD players are out-sourced to other manufacturers :)
Anyone know if the Alba can output NTSC as PAL-50? (as most of the Samsungs do, and the Dansai 852 I think?)
would make a great backup player for me if it could...
cheers,
rf
