If i am using a dvd player as a cd player and i wish to record digitally to my md ( so that i can leave it on and it automatically knows when a track ends and a new one starts ), what lead would i be requiring.

the panny 525 does automatic titling & track marks via optical, so its possible yours will. be aware that some discs are copy protected, & that "backups" probably won't record.
