Question:
Being a little new to all this home cinema stuff, I have a really silly question. If I was to buy an AV amp/receiver, such as pioneer vsxd510, would I be right in assuming that the speakers hook directly into the back ? And would that be standard of all these AV devices, or do you need to aware of a possible requirement for a seperate amp ?
They're just like a normal amp mate. Hook the speakers straight up.
Although i'm sure you can get mega expensive pre amp/amp receiver combinations also, but i wouldn't worry about them unless you have an AMEX Centurion to pay for the stuff :D
 cheers.....i figured that but was a little too embarrassed to ask anyone in real life
There is the odd exception like the Yamaha E800 which is only has three amplified channels for connection to a stereo amp but there aren't many on the market. The majority have a five channel amp built in with a pre-out for an active sub-woofer.
