Guarantees on mod chips
Question:

Got my new Toshiba 220e back in April, had it flashed to the latest formware a couple of months ago. Yesterday, thought I'd watch a R1 film......put the disc in and it refused to play. Tried some others and found that it will now only play R2 movies (no R1 or R4 unless duel encoded). Therefore, do any companies guarantee these devices as it's going to cost me yet another £30ish to get the player to and from the people I bought it from?
Surely if their work fails, would they be responsible for charges etc, or would I be liable for postage but not parts/labour?

Answers:

the company you bought it from should be liable for the warrenty, providing thats where you got the firmware upgrade.
trouble is its a grey area. moding the box in the first place voids the manufacturers warenty,
If you have it modded yourself then you have no warrenty.
If you buy it modded your warrenty will be with the supplier.
If you have any further work done by anyone else other than the supplier then you void their warrenty.
If the machine was returned to you not in the condition it was sent in, IE not region free then you should be able to return it at no cost to yourself, but you'll need to argue that one out.

Answers:

Are you sure you haven't just accidently set your player to Region 2?
Lots of Modchips can be set to individual regions (most are set to Region 0 as that'll play everything (except RCE)). But you can set these modchips to individual regions (to get round RCE on Tosh players). Try finding out if you can set the machine back to Region 0 via the handset before sending anything back.
Hope this helps

Answers:

Sent it back, got it back and it now works perfectly (so far). Not sure if there's anyway of changing regions manually.....never had the need to do so.

Answers:

You may If you get an RCE disc.
