Do I need a sub?
Question:

Hi, I'm planning to start a home cinema setup with a Denon 1802 and the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3, 8.1 and centre speakers.
Will those speakers provide enough bass or do I need a sub?
My front room is fairly small.

Answers:

I always found a sub (even a small one) helps with the overall sound. It helps keep the other 5 speakers focused on the non-boomy stuff, which can have clear benefits in terms of sound clarity etc.
You might try out your system without a sub and then see how you get on. If you find it is Ok without, then there's no problem running without a sub at all. I know plenty of folks who do just that.

With those speakers you probably won't 'need' a sub, but you will as sideshowbob says always be better off with one. A sub is designed for one purpose, audio speakers have to do a range of tasks. The best route is again as sideshowbob says, leave the sub until last and see how you go. You can always borrow one or have one on demo to see how much difference it will make in your lounge and on your setup.
