Question:
Hi,
Have made an offer of £1600 to a guy for a rear projection 56WH08, it has 3 and half years warranty remaining.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of these and the price i have offered.
Is this a decent enough deal? or a decent enough TV?
Thanks:)
Very nice TV. I've seen this one in action, but personally own the Tosh 43VJ13P model. If you take the time to set these TV's up properly using Avia Home Theater Calibration DVD, you'll get the best out of the RPTV, and you'll pretty much eradicate the possibility of screen burn. I'd definately recommend these TV's.
£1600 seems like a pretty good price to me. They retail for about £2200. The 3 year warrenty is a nice touch also. I'll simply say this - before you buy, go and check the TV out for external wear and damage. But most importantly - check the TV for signs of screenburn. When you view the TV, check the corners of the screen when viewing video for signs of logo's/images and stuff like that burnt onto the screen. The best way to do that is to view a plain white video image. That will show up any shadows or signs of burn in. Just standard checking to make sure you don't get screwed over. If you find no problems, I'd definately recommend you buy it :p
56" Widescreen is pretty huge, you'll be in heaven watching DVD's through one of these RPTV's :)
Thanks for letting me know and for the positive comments.
Have been bumped up to £1675 for this, but probably with free delivery from the guy, which would've cost me £75 for van and petrol anyway i guess.
Is there any warranty for things like screenburn? or accidental damage?
Hoping to get this for the weekend, would be a nice birthday present to myself.:)

Warranty will NOT cover screen burn in. It will however cover accidental damage. As I said, check the screen thoroughly and buy the Avia Calibration DVD and you'll be fine.
Thanks again for the reply, looks like it might be finalised, the other guy is just looking for transport to drive it to me this weekend.
Asked again about the screenburn, got told again no problems, will let him set it up and prove it to me i guess before handing over the money.
where can i find this avia calibration please?
any other advice on what to do/ what to ask for? Will get all documents regarding the warranty when he arrives, apparently it's with Toshiba, which must be good then.:)

At $37 its not cheap, but well worth it if you have either an RPTV or Projection setup.
I've got a Toshiba 56pw8 and it's still the best TV I've seen. I was going to sell it a while ago and get a projector but have changed my mind. I got the AVIA disc from www.dvdboxoffice.com . It's very useful to get things like contrast, brightness and tint correct. But to get the best out of the TV, you'll have to go into the service mode and do a 64 point convergence adjustment (I only learnt how to do it after nearly 3 years of owning this TV!).
thanks for the help guys, now just the small matter of the guy coming through with the TV this weekend.:)
Noooooo!!!!
I was just in the middle of posting on this thread how happy i was to be getting this tomorrow, when the phone rang and it was the guy who rang saying the van has fallen through and he can't get it to me till middle of the week......
I think i'm gonna cry:(
oh well.
Well, in the meantime, i was going to ask about connecting leads for a TV this size, i just use standard scarts from DVD player to my TV, but some people mention gold-plated ones and the like to get better sound and clarity.
Would it be worth getting some new leads for this size a TV?
Any recommendations?
Thanks.
Well, i received this beauty today and what can i say?
Absolutely stunning, the picture quality is amazing for such a large TV.
The guy has the colour and brightness down to around 50, and as a result he has no screen burn issues.
The TV looks in fine condition, no real scratches or marks. My scart leads aren't long enough to stick my DVD player and digibox on top of it, so need a few new ones.
he recommended IXOS scart to scart leads 1.5m, anyone recommending the quality or best place to get these?
All in all, i am extremely happy, watching football and x-files is gonna be wicked.:)
Lucky sod. My mate's got one of these and it's an incredible piece of work. When I go round to see him, we never end up going out. Wish I could fit one in my flat! Still, I've got a 42" Toshiba coming on Tuesday so that'll have to do :)
