Question:
I bought these a few months back, and I've noticed there's quite a hum when the Marantz is switched on but there's no sound (or when it's low). I generally leave the Mission sub switched on, and that's fine. What could it be? Could it be a mains problems? Does the Marantz know (or need to know?) that the sub is active?
Any advice would really be appreciated. It's not really bad, just a little irritating when I notice it.....!
Thanks.

It could be that you need a better subwoofer cable. That solved the buziing from my sub.
I used the cabling that was supplied with it by Mission.

Emanef, the sub does hum slightly if nothing is playing, or if its not yet gone into power-saving mode.
is it causing problems? not ever bothered me.
I'm assuming the sub is going into power saving mode correctly.
If it's the sub that is buzzing it could be due to 'dirty' electricity.
I find that if my sub is left in standby mode it picks up feedback off other electrical devices.
When it receives a signal to switch itself on you get a deep pulsing humming noise. If I power cycle my sub then it's fine. What I tend to do now is power cycle it just before I switch on my amp just to avoid the noise.
I first thought I had a dodgy sub, but after speaking to mission and getting a new sub, I eventually found out what it is. This only occurs when it's been in stanby for a while, say a couple of days.
If it's used a few times during the day it's not a problem.
You can get mains leads to clean the electricty but I've got used to switching it off and on. If you amp is humming I'm not sure.
Thank for the replies.
I can't really tell if it's the amp or the sub. I'll check all the connections, etc and see what I can find.

Doubt very much that it would be the amp, its most likely the active sub - try a sub cable, move any signal / speaker cables away from the mains cables, and see if it makes a difference.
Sounds like the sub - I get a bit of a hum from it too (I have the FS2AVs) - but it should auto-shutdown after a short while and disappear totally (as mentioned above).
Try also turning off the Amp to test. The humming should stay for a bit - then the amp will auto shutdown.
