Question:
Not a very elegant title I know...sorry !
I have an Arcam Alpha 7 cd player that seems to be OK with some cd's and playing distorted on others (it soounds like the part in Spinal Tap where the aeroplane interference comes through the PA !). I've checked that it wasn't the cd or the input on the amp by playing the same cd on my dvd player and by plugging the cd player into spare inputs on the amp. Does anyone have any idea what this might be ?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
I had the same sort of prob recently with distortion on certain CDs - noticeable on highs/mids at any volume - but it was my preamp that was b0rked as the distortion was present no matter which transport I used.. not much help to you but still..
Have you tried hooking the player to the amp digitally..?
Ultimately I think it's gonna be either a trip to the repair man or you local hifi dealer though..
EDIT - Do you have line level gain settings on either the player or the amp you can/have fiddled with..?
Cheers for that...I'll try attaching the cd player to my digitheatre...my hi-fi amp doesn't have a digital input.
I don't have any gain setting to play with on the player or the amp.
<Thought bubble> I've got a seven year-old daughter. I must be able to pull some kind of insurance scam here...did the orange juice go into the amp as well, I wonder... <End of thought bubble>
I'll try the friendly Arcam dealer first !!:)
