Question:
I want to get some decent floorstanders, and have narrowed down to possibly the 773e or 774's and wondered if anyone has any experience of these
Judging by Mission's specs on their website, it appears the 774's have larger cabinets (drivers are identical), presumably giving a bit more lower down. I listen to varied music, mainly pop & rock (no classical).
Go and listen to them mate.. you might not like either..
 Let me put it another way - does anyone have these and what is your opinion of them?
I want to get some feedback before I arrange a listening session.
I've already listened to some standmounters that were dissapointing (What Hi Fi award winners Aegis Evo Ones/B&W DM303's), so have now decided to look at floorstanders.
Or any recommendations for others around the £200 - £300 mark?
I listened to the 774s a while back, and didn't like them. Although I have owned Missions in the past I found the sound too thin. The bass was very lacking, and the tonal balance was too bright.
I went for B&W 603s instead, but they are outside your price range (£600).
Thanks for the info Beddie! I listened to the Mission M72 standmounters a few weeks ago and my impression was they were a little too bright, may well be a Mission characteristic?
I've owned a pair of 774s for the past three years plus, and there is - IMHO of course - nothing wrong with them in the bass department.
In fact, up until recently I had my LFE channel running through both the 774s and my Yamaha YST SW320 sub, but it was too much (a little boomy); now the LFE goes to the sub only.
Much depends on your amp, and your acoustics of course; your best bet is to, whatever you get, buy them on trial. What sounds good (or bad even) in your local hi-fi store may sound completely different in your home environment.
