Question:
Hello!
I have a Wharfedale 750 DVD Player and Panasonis 28" Pro Logic TV. I can get Surround 5.1 and it's ace, but I just cannot work out what I need to make this DTS compatible.
Here's what I've worked out:
* If I play Jurassic Park 3 in DTS mode I get no sound at all.
* If I play Jurassic Park 3 on my Playstation 2 I do get sound.
* Jaws Region 2 works fine. (So it looks like I might have the firmware upgrade - although this isn't a conscious decision..!!)
* I have ordered Lord of the Rings 4 discer from DVD Soon and it says French DTS, English 5.1. I've emailed them but not got a reply. PANIC!!!
So...... is the playstation cheating? What's wrong? Do I need a new DVD player, or a DTS decoder?
I'm completely lost. Please can someone help!
Thanks,
John
A Pro-logic t.v wont decode the dts signal. On my t.v when i play dts is dosent work but dd5.1 does.I have a DTS/DD amp so it doesnt bother me.you need to get your self a DTS compatilbe amp mate.
You can't get DD/DTS decoding without a proper decoder!!! The TV if it is only Pro Logic will be taking a stereo signal from the DVD Player which will be downmixing DD to DPL/Stereo and your TV will decode the matrixed in rears (DPL).
DTS is different however, most players don't/can't downmix a DTS track to DPL/Stereo so you won't get any sound. Most (if not all) DTS discs also carry a DPL soundtrack.
If you want DD/DTS in 5.1/6.1 then you will have to dig deep into your pockey and buy an DD/DTS amp and probably some speakers.
Marv - Images in your sig should be no more than 10k, can you change it please

ok,will change
Thanks for the info. Sounds like I need to get a new amp.
Any ideas why the Playstation 2 appears to play DTS OK? Is it cheating..?
It is probably actually playing the DPL track? Did you specifically select DTS from the disc setup?
Also it may have the possibility to downmix DTS to stereo (DPL), but I really wouldn't know about this as I don't own one :(
I definitely chose DTS because with the JP3 disc it makes a big fuss about it, shows you a DTS logo then the film. I suspect it might be really giving me a stereo (or whatever) output but am not sure.
