Question:
Well, since i'm building a nice new PC system for my room, Dell 20.1 inch TFT taking centre stage, instead of going for PC speakers i've thought about separates. Say a good amp and a set of speakers to play my MP3's from the PC, using digital out from the PC??
Any ideas, got around £400 to spend.
TIA
Mark
Should be in the hardware forum really!
Have seen some suggestions simial to your request recently in there so I am sure you'll get a response.
mooooooooooooving to hardware
This is possible as I did that with my old Amiga all you need is something to connect 2 pins to your PC (Red and white)
I am not sure what kind of socket your PC Soundcard have, but it should be one. So you will need to find a cable with one dick and wire in one end and 2 dick in other end with a seperate wire.
I think it will do the job.
sorry guys

I don't think the cable is the problem (the PC has Digital Out) he want's a speaker/amp setup for £400!
Try looking at places like richer sounds for ideas (not always the best place to buy, but sometimes ok) as they often have a selection of such setups.
with that budget going for seperates is possibly better (e.g. amp and speakers seperate purchase) and you should find something within your budget.
You should esialy be able to get a decent amp and speakers for £400 from Richer Sounds, but I do not know how you could utilise the digital output from your PC unless you bought a cinema amp instead of a hi-fi amp.
You maybe could get a minidisc player and a hi-fi amp and then take the sound through the MD player into the amp.
If it's just for music (stereo) then a analogue connection between PC and amp would be fine.

I've seem a few soundcards with digital optical out, can't I just connect this to an amp with an optical lead?

Only if the Amp has an optical input which most 2-channel amps do not.
ahh I see now, but you say most.
Do they exist then?

Dunno, but if I'd said that none of them came with optical inputs, someone would prove me wrong. :)
Best bet is to get a cheap AV amp.
I would go for a cheaper AV amp, and get the ability to go DD/DTS in the future :)
Any ideas, got around £400 to spend.
