Question:
I got a Marantz SR4200 amp a few months ago. I've noticed it occasionally has gaps when using DPL2 mode, but I've only just had a DTS dvd to play. As soon as it started there was a constant cracking noise in the rear right speaker, every .5 a second continuously. Any ideas? My speakers are Mission FS2AV's, but they've been fine before. The movie (Planet of the Apes) is fine on DD5.1 mode, but it's the DTS mode that's playing up.....
My does this too. Just rewind the dvd a few seconds & it should be fine;)
Yes, it's a 'known' fault with these amps...
Supposedly the problem has been sorted out now and shouldn't affect the newer ones (how old's yours?), but I have to say that it doesn't bother me that much. The Main trigger is when you pause a film for a while, as the clicking will often start-up after doing that...
I've found that just pressing 'DD' and then 'DTS' is the quickest method of stopping the clicking (although Doorman's suggestion will work fine too). You may be surprised at how unconcerned I seem, but it's a FANTASTIC amp on the whole and I've grown quite attatched to the quirks myself!. I have to say that I've never had trouble with the DPL 2 setting though, so maybe yours has a rather more serious problem?.
In my case, it ONLY occurs on DTS tracks (rarely even then), so the fact that the solution is very simple and completely effective means that I don't lose any sleep over it.
I bought it at the end of May via Justin at Home Cinema Heaven.
I don't get any crackling on DPL2, just the occasional silence gap, though that could be due to my Sky box cutting out for a slip second.
The cracking was on DTS; it's the first time I used it. I was watching Planet of the Apes in DTS mode, and it was constant. However, I did do what Doorman suggested and it fixed it, though there was still three or four moments in the film where the audio cut out very briefly.
I've just had a Sky+ box installed today though, so hopefully when I get another digital cable that should improve the audio slightly too.....!
.....and, yes, it is a great amp other than that!
Thanks.....!
