Question:
Hi,
What would be the best option to get dd5.1 or dts sound to my home cinema setup. I currently own Thompson DTH 5000-U dvd player, Sony HTK 170 Amp/speakers/sub. I also have a spare sammy 709 laying around. Now both my dvd players do not have on-board decoders, so I cannot get dd 5.1/dts at the moment. i have a composite cable currently running from the dvd player to the amp. Whats the cheapest, but best way to get the higher quality sound, at the moment on the market. Is it best to go for the amp or new dvd player. My instinct is to go with the amp, as I don't really want 3 dvd players, but any suggestions would be welcomed. For more info on my dilema, se this thread.

whats your budget?
I'd go for the new amp option but make sure your Sony speakers doesn't have proprietary connectors on them
not really a budget as such, no more than about £400. Regarding the speakers, they have the two bare wires on the end, and my sub has a co-axial type connector. If I go for the amp option, I may buy new speakrs to, as my current satellite ones are only 4 inches tall, and I am sure I would benefit from bigger speakers!

go for a decentt amp there are some bargains around at the moment on the genaral forum.Yamaha a5 for £100 i have for sale included plus others and they will all give u a better result and better upgrade connectivity.
Are there any specfic players that would give the best dd5.1/dts result with my current sony satellites and amp.
Thanks for the advice so far
its not the player that you need to change, as long as you have a 5.1/DTs compatible, then they all will be much of a muchness I believe. However if you want DTS you definately need a new amp. as others have said the Amp is your best option.
sorry I meant to say are there any amps that people can reccomend in my current setup state, thanks
anyone?
