Can any body tell me how to hack the APEX AD-1100 WB from ASDA to play R1. Please help.

There are some instructions on hacking the player at the above link, though I dont fancy it myself, I'm glad I was just getting the info for a friend

If you look at page 8 on the link Baz126 posted you will find sombody has already tried the firmware (its not a simple hack) on a UK machine and it doesn't work.
Take it Back to Asda i did after a phone call to apex technical help they told me to search the internet for a Multiregion Firmware.Non available i'm afraid so got me a Alba 108 12p dearer but multiregion straight out of the box and plays SVCD\VCD\MP3 as well,Also this player is a Badged MiCo DAV-108.

I was thinking of the Acoustic Solutions 421 from RS for £69.95.

Are you sure the Alba 108 plays VCD.
If you look on the Argos back cover the picture of it says dvd.SVCD.cd.mp3.cd-rw player.
The ones i have seen instore have no SVCD marking on them and there have been reports that they don't play VCDs.
Perhaps there are two firmware versions in circulation - in which case its pot luck if you get one that plays VCD/SVCD.
At least with Argos you get 16 days to take it back for a refund.

To get the Alba 108 to play SVCD\VCD load a disc then after 1-2 secs press Menu quickly then press "1" and there you go into Svcd\Vcd Mode no problems.
If that does not work try load a disc then press "GoTo" Button repeatedly until the Svcd\Vcd menu appears.
I have tried Both Methods and they do work.Trust me
Also straight out of the Box Stuck R1 the Sixth Day "RCE" played Flawlessly.
