have a look on the mission website here (http://www.mission.co.uk) and you'll see that the 70 is a standard 2 way speaker and is pretty good for surround use (I use a set myself). The 77DS is a dipole speaker and so is designed more for surround ambience than spot effects. I can't tell you which to get (I don't know) but it may be that the 70 is better suited to DD/DTS whilst the 77ds is better for multichannel music and pro-logic/dsp modes.
You may need to do some research to find out which is more suitable for your needs - but remember that the 77ds takes up a fair amount of wall space, although it'll probably have less cabinet depth than the 70s.

The 70DS and 77DS are both bi-pole speakers, you can see the tech specs on the website. Di-poles are better suited to DD/DTS as they spread the sound around you. If your interested in multi channel music then your rears should ideally match your fronts, but it's all down to personal taste really.

there is a long thread at avforums.com which answers this question exactly....
both are bipoles.. some differences in output and the quality of the actual speaker if I remember.

Dont listen to music in anything but stereo as the front spekers are much bigger and better than the rears so i just use it for surround in DD/DTS, i dont suppose it will make that much difference which ones i get as im sure they both preform well but i will try for the two way if richers have them.
Thanks guys, jon

jon...if you read the replies after fozzybear's, you will notice that
both me & KevB point out that the M7ds (from the m70 series) & the M77ds are actually both bipoles so they are exactly the same type of speaker.
no difference...
(or one that is "two way" as you describe it). both would be fine for diffuse rear effects from dd/dts and also dolby prologic.
there are slight differences in power and quality but only minor.
have a look and compare the details of the m7ds http://www.mission.co.uk/m70_ser.htm#m7ds
against the m77ds
http://www.mission.co.uk/7745cds.htm#77ds
have read of this avforums thread for much more detailed info
