Can you connect 2 amps top one set of speakers via 2 seperate speaker leads?
Question:

I'm thinking of buying a 2nd amp for home cinema, but I'm gonna want to my current speakers for the fronts. Now, i do want to keep having to connect the appropriate speaker cable whenver I change the amp i'm using, so I was wonderig, would be ok to simply keep the current speaker cables where they are (screwed down onto the speakers) & then when I get my Home Cinema amp, simply connect that to the my speakers through the Banana plug ports?

Answers:

Nope what you need to do is buy a HC amp with a pre-out (they all have 'em). You then plug the pre-out into your Aux on your main stereo amp.
Then balance out the sound levels.
I've got a LINN Classik and a Yamaha A5. Rears and centre is run out of the A5 and the Front L&R come out of my LINN with the pre-out connecting the two.
Works well. Best of both worlds.

Snap - I'm also running something very similar with an A5 and a NAD C370.
The only thing to watch out for is that you remember to turn the CD amp down when you switch to CD - I have it set at 12 when driving the speakers for home cinema, but this is ear-shockingly loud with CD input.
(I would strongly advise against wiring 2 amps to one speaker - that way leads to blown speakers!)

Answers:

Not *all* HC amps have pre-outs, but other than that what TB said about connecting it up is certainly one way of doing it. The alternative is to use a switching box.
Don't hook two amps directly to the speakers, unless you like the possibility of fried drivers..

Got yourself a nice AV processor like my Linn AV5103 and you be able to plug in and distribute just about anything, anywhere.

I wish i could, but i'm on serious budget constraints! :(
Thanks for the advice, looking at special offers & prices it seems that one of the cheapest packages involves a 5 speaker set up, so I may end up having a set of speakers for each amp :)
This should do me till I can finally start earning a decent wage.
thanks again!
