Help Me Choose A DVD Player Please
Question:

Hi,
Hope you can help me out, I'm currently trying to decide between two players. I'd be quite happy with the Samsung DVD-S224 at £119, however I have always liked Panasonic (and have a VCR to match it) so am also considering the DVD-RV32EB which is £179.
Are any of you familiar with these models, or could you offer any opinions of things to look out for ?
Thanks for any advice, Dave ;)

Also found a Pioneer DV-340 for £80, any thoughts (at all) about this player ?

I don't think you can go with wrong with Pioneers generally. I've always found them to be very reliable, good players.
Mind you, I've just broken my own rules and upgraded my Pioneer 444s to a Sony DVPNS700.
Richer Sounds were doing these for £199 fully region modded. It's a good machine, very quick seeking, has an onboard DTS\ DD decoder for those that want, reads CDR\ RW (unlke a lot of Sonys) and is a SACD player with a good quality DAC as well.
Damn good deal, but hurry quick as I think they've nearly all gone.

Thanks for that Jason, looks like the DV-340 is mine now anyway. If you want a look at the spec check here :

I bought a toshiba 210 when it was over £250.
I believe you can pick one up for £100 now.
I have been very pleased with it (esp picture quality) and it has the bonus of being able to hold 2 discs ie dont have to get up to watch the extras :)

Old basic model, amongst other things missing no RGB via scart :(

Really tempted to go for this as i know it plays dvd-rws with no problem.
How good is the picture quality compared with the 444?

I haven't seen a great deal of difference between the two when it comes to image quality to be honest Dtsrules, although I do think it as a much superior quality DAC, and this is important to me as it’s probably used more as a CD player that DVD.
The Sony also has a better remote than the Pioneer, but then again, I’ve always like the Sony remotes. It is the first Sony player I’ve come across that offers the same speed and versatility as the Pioneer’s.
Don’t get me wrong, the 444 is a great payer for it’s price and I am nervous about leaving Pioneers reliability (I’ve had some shocking problems with Sony motors failing, in the past), but I think that the DVPNS700 is good all round player which seems to have shrugged off most of the annoying little things that come with Sony players and so far, it seems a blinder.
I just need to go get myself some SACD material now!

I hope Dave doesn't mind me hijacking his thread ;)
I'm also compaing Pioneer v Sony multiregions - I'm keen on the Pioneer DV350 but have just spotted the
Sony DVP-NS305
Thoughts, recommendations?
Also, anyone had any problems with HiFiBitZ or been happy with their service?
TIA

Go ahead Astute ;)
Yeah been a little concerned about that RGB thing myself Justin. Got it in the back of my car now so I'm gonna have to see if my TV will handle the SCART input, if not (I know it will do S-Video) it's off to get an S-Video lead I go :oh-hum:

In the absence of any advice or recomemndations http://Here.com/forums/images/icons/jpshakehead[1].gif I plumped for the Pioneer DV350 from HiFiBitZ.
I must say I was impressed with the speed of replies from their customer services and next day deliverying - well done HiFiBitZ
