Question:
Just bought this player DVD's work great
But with VCD,SVCD the picture seems to turn to NTSC (Black & White)
When I turn the player off and back on it is still in the same mode
only way to get it back to colour is to insert a dvd
I have tried a S-Video Lead and a Scart lead
It seems to be somthing in the player itself that changes mode
But I cant find any settings to stop this
Any Ideas?
Are the VCD's your using NTSC? Pioneer Players tend to keep the same mode of the previous disc even on the menu, until the disc is changed to a PAL one!
Try using an RGB connection as RGB usually doesn't matter if NTSC or not - it will appear colour!

Set the player to PAL60;)
Thanks for your ideas I tried what you said but still no look I think the vcd's are NTSC and have tried the RGB in every scart connection in my TV and video, I also tried A VCD that I encoded into pal, that worked fine
Just put in a Region 1 DVD again this came up in Black and white
My last DVD player a cheap scan worked fine with SVCD,vcd, region 1 so really dont understand why this wont?
any more ideas?
Cant find any options to set it at pal 60?

All branded DVD (sony, pan, pioneer, etc) players don`t convert the format, its down to your TV to do this. Only a handfull like Pioneer and panasonic offer this solution. Problem is your Tv, the above is covered in the manual, under TV formats and connection.
ok so what you are saying is my last player just converted the format, but not all DVD players do this.
The only reference to this problem is on page 53 additional infomation / setting the TV system
Within this section there is reference to switch the TV system
Auto - NTSC
NTSC - PAL
Pal - Auto
Below is a table showing disc type - format and player setting
for NTSC it reccomends MOD.PAL (although the only 3 options are Auto NTSC and PAL???)
I have tried all 3 options with the same result a black and white picture
Hopefully I am missing somthing really simple here
How do I set the player setting to MOD.PAL?

Set it to Pal, its one and the same. if its not made any difference you havn`t set it correctly. Also setting the player to putput RGB WOULD solve the problem if you are using a fully wired scart, and you enable RGB on your TV. The problem here is the TV not supporting NTSC3.58 discs, NOT the dvd player.....

Its pointless plugging the scart into every input on your TV (and VCR!) and hoping for the best - you need to find out *which* input on your Tv offers RGB in, which is usually AV1. You`ll also most likely need to enable RGB in on your TV. The problem here is the TV, and that the dvd / tv have not been setup correctly - just enable RGB on the DVD players menu, select RGB on your TV, using a fully wired scart lead, and everything will be fine. Or just set the DVD player to output PAL, as detailed in the Players manual.
Cheers
I understand that the DVD isn't the problem it is the TV
But from my point of view I cant get SVCD to play in colour
I have set the DVD to PAL what happens now is everytime I turn on the DVD player it reverts or stays in PAL mode
However when I insert a SVCD it reverts to NTSC
I have changed the player output to RGB
Using the Scart that I bought with the player (IXOS) connecting it directly to AV1 in the TV it finally worked
However using my old Monster scart it wont
I can no longer connect it through my Video as B&W appears
Despite all the problems I have had I would had still probally bought this player, although I am a little miffed that with a much cheaper less quality player it converted the format, and actually said if it was a SVCD or VCD disc this just says VCD regardless
But I understand that pherhaps Pioneer concentrate on quality rather then features
Thanks for your time and Help Justin :)
Hopefully this will help other people who might experience the same problem.
Time to start saving for a new TV :)
BTW using Nero I burnt a SVCD the source was a NTSC file but Nero gives a option to burn in either PAL or NTSC I burnt in PAL
This made no difference whatsoever and still came up in B&W so dont waste your discs tring this.
