DVD player bitstream output question..
Question:

Currently got a lowly Sony 335, which hopfully is gonna be shoved in the bedroom soon, so I'm on the look out for a new player..
Now, I'm naturally assuming that the likes of the new Pioneer 656 will give a certain improvement in picture quality, but what about the digital audio side of it? As you progress through the evolutionary scale or even higher models in the same generation do players output a 'superior' digital bitstream..?

Answers:

do players output a 'superior' digital bitstream..?
my guess would be No.
If you are using Analogue outputs (for CD replay etc) then I'd expect the quality of the D/A conversion to difer between players, but as you are using the digital bitstream direct theres no conversion necessary, so you're basically get the contents of the disc output verbatim.

Answers:

I upgraded from a Scan 2000 player to a Tosh recently and I only have the sound hooked up via the optical bitstream and I've noticed quite a big improvement in clarity of sound and the frequency seems to be higher too meaning I don't have to turn the amp up as much.
I presume there must be component improvements in the connection and transfer of the signal from the disc to the output socket. Either that or I need my ears syringed!
