Question:
Hi,
I have a couple of issues with my Loewe Aconda and was wondering if any owner/expert can help.
1. The h/v ratio of the Pano & Cine & Zoom settings are wrong (slightly stretched horizontally) making people fatter and squares and circles off. Can this be adjusted and if so how? Using the geometry settings doesnt work as these are global and 4:3 and 16:9 are correctly proportioned.
2. There is an inherent magnetic disturbance pattern that I cannot get rid of. This after turning off etc to degauss. Even a manual degauss with a coil thingy doesnt clear it. The pattern is wierdly consistent. Bringing even a shielded centre speaker near enhances the effect, but only in the original pattern, not dependent on speaker position. ie No matter where the magnetic influence the disturbance remains identical, it does not follow the speaker position - it just increases or decreases in the same pattern?
3. When playing NTSC DVDs I get these dark shadowy flicker areas on left and right. Moving amps, power cords etc doesnt seem to help.
I am unable to get any proper tech response here and in fact the technician who looked at it simply adjusted the geometry and f**kd up the ratios for 4:3 and 16:9!! I am petrified to send it in for "service" if this is what the "trained" technician does.
any advice appreciated :-)
Is the magnetic effect totally stationary on the screen, regardless of source, input or playback type?
Also is the pattern similar to semi-circles coming in from the top and bottom of the screen; ))) ((((
If so, then the set needs to be returned for total replacement as the tube is dud. This was an issue with the first Aconda 9381 2500 that I was sent, but a new set had no problems and the geometry-style issues were gone too.
yes, the magnetic effect is totally stationary no matter what the input source. bringing a speaker near will simply intensify the effect, moving it away again will cause the interference to fade, but never totally gone. i have two pics to show but am not allowed to post attachments :( but its not quite the same as your "diagram" -- its like top left/right area dropping away towards lower third of picture with a round blobby one on the right about halfway up:

Is this a flicker that is more noticable on lighter images than darker ones ? it could be 50Hz noise (I have this problem) - In my case the noise is due to the electrics of my house, and i'm moving out next week - but it could be caused by your cables, the order things are plugged in or a noisy electrical device (fridge, washing machine etc).
[EDIT] - This is not a Loewe/Aconda problem, rather a general power problem that would affect other sets (My old TV also did it)
Have you tried contacting Loewe Directly via email - I recently contacted then about a problem my set has that may require a software upgrade and they seem to be pretty on the ball about sorting things out
Phil
All contact via Loewe website was referred to my local dealer who sent out this expensive technician who has left everything unimproved and unchanged (after me resetting the geometry that he screwed up). Is their another address I can email to that you have?
Yes the flickering is much more noticeable on light areas, it being greyish. I have isolated everything like cables etc, even dismantling and hooking up only TV and DVD in another part of the room. Still same problem. If this is power related, do you have any idea as to how one would go about solving it? Would a UPS help at all?
thnx
Apparently my kitchen isn't on a separate ring main so that's my thought, so I suspect one of my white goods is causing problems.
I did look at UPSs and that might help clean the signal, but it depends how they work (eg does the battery only kick in when the mains drops - or does the mains charge the battery and the battery powers the system). Another alternative would be one of these hifi mains filter power blocks whcih might clean the power up.
I've just noticed you're in S/Africa so I guess you've got a different agent (i'm dealing with Linn who are responsible for Loewe in the UK
