Question:
I was on the verge of buying a Tosh 510 (mainly for the prog scan) when I heard a rumour that it won't play DVD-R or possibly DVD-RW. As I'd like a reasonable amount of future proofing has anyone got one of these and tried recordable DVDs in them? I had a look at www.vcdhelp.com but it turned out to be www.no-help-for-dvd-r-on-a-tosh-510.com, and a few google and newsgroup searches were no help either :(
Also, does anyone know if the modded 510 from www.webelectricals.co.uk is RCE friendly and/or macrovision free?

My tosh 510 will play dvd-r's. but only good ones authored on nero 5.5.8.2 and above!
ie it wont like bulq pack, princo or other generation 1or2 dvd-r's
It just says loading on the front and you can hear the disc spinning.
However, since using generation 3 datasafes which I got from www.bigpockets.co.uk I have had no problems.
cant find a dvd-rw that works yet, but as I can only find generation 1 rw discs, I haven't given up hope yet.
I got mine from richers so I cant comment on the other thing. Also as I dont have a vcr (got a tivo) I cant comment on the macrovision thing.

Thanks guys - still pretty inconclusive but I might bite the bullet as there don't seem to be any other prog scan players in the sub-£300 price range

Did anyone come to a conclusion about the Tosh 510 ?
My player plays all DVDr media but towards the outside of the disk starts to skip, the film will pause for maybe a second then restart, but this only happens at the end of films ?
Any thoughts
Further to my earlier post, my tosh 510 will play every 3rd generation DVD I thus far thrown at it. Also I have found it will play Whitelabel DVD-RW Gold edition discs fine. Cant get it to play any other DVD-rw's but who cares, I've found one it does :clap:

You dont get any skipping at all towards the outer edges of disks ? I have tried CHOICE 2x (Blue and White), White Label Gen4 and Datasafe Gen4 all play fine until the outer edges of the disks.
What media have you tried so I can see if mine plays it or doesn't ? I wonder if maybe my player is faulty as it states on the box that its DVD-r compatible :-(
