Question:
My mum is one of my case studies and I did her first treatment Sunday evening.... Now she suffers from depression and anxiety. I did mention to her about the healing crisis but when I called her yesterday she had been feeling really anxious all day... is this usual?
I told her that I thought it was so not to worry her.
I also did her husband too and he suffers from Insomnia, I mentioned that he may sleep better that night but he also said he had a crap nights sleep.... did I do something wrong?
You haven't done anything wrong.
Make sure you do lots of relaxation techniques at the start and end and throughout also. Lots of work on the sloar plexus for your mum and I would work the spine well for relaxation also. Get her to do some deep breaths at the start and end if you don't already.
Be patient, all this should pass after a few treatments and they will get into it and begin to relax. A lot of people become more aware of any problems they have when they start having treatments.
Keep it up!
Thanks Candie,
The reason I'm so worried is that my mum was hospitalised with depression nearly 2 years ago but has suffered for over 25 years and she really does 'suffer'....
I'm hoping she is going to let me carry on as she seems abit worried now.
I wonder if your Mum may sense that you are anxious about treating her, shes probably a bit hyper sensitive and liable to react more strongly than a stranger to your emotions. Just think of all the benfits of reflexology and you will be more confident which will come across to her.
I would try to persevere if she is willing, but if she isnt, I wouldnt try to persuade her too much at this time.
Try, as Candie says the extra relaxation and perhaps shorten the repetitions and treatment time a bit, using lightish pressure and build up to full treatment gradually.
Log it all down for your case study as its all valid research and very good experience for you,
tell your Mum she is a very interesting case it might help her get over her initial worries. (assure her its all anonymous too, so no-one will know its her if she doesn't want them to).
BTW were her reflexes very tender when you treated her?
Jan
Hi Jan,
I didn't feel anxious before treating her to be honest so I'm not sure if she got negative vibes from me... maybe she is abit sensitive
I think I will take both of your advice and do more relaxers etc, make her relax more before going onto other stuff and put a few relaxers in between too....
I am writing a diary too for inbetween treatments so I can see the real differences..
Thanks for all your advice :)
