manicures - how do you do yours?
Question:

after reading a recent thread, I thought I'd start this one.
how many types of manicures do you do?
what products do you use?
what's your most popular?
do you have any special, luxurious add-ons?
thought it might be interesting :D

At college we are taught a basic manicure and pedicure procedure.
At my college other than all the stuff such as removing clients jewelery, doing a consultation, removing enamel etc etc.
We file, buff, do cuticle work, hand massage and enamel.
The extra treatments we offer are warm oil, the oil is used to soften the cuticles instead of cuticle cream and the oil is then used for the hand and arm massage.
paraffin wax, exfoliating treatments such as bran rub or salt rub, hand and foot masks and finally heated booties and thermal mitts.
We are also learning nailtiques manicure which is a simular procedure to the jessica manicure.
When you work in a salon you may change your manicure techinques slightly to what you learnt at college or you may learn another form of manicure treatment such as nailques or jessica manicure which is very expensive for training, products and equipment but is a gorgeous manicure treatment and very popular and i cant wait to learn it. dont know of any other forms of manicure other than them.

Used to use nailtiques and am trained to use their products which were very good especially the heated mittens. I now use Cucio naturale which I love. They have products which also allow you to do an anti aging manicure too which includes a lemon skin lightening serum. There nail strengthners contain no formaldehyde so therefore are better at strengthening the nails without making them brittle. The hand creams are lovely too and the packaging looks very nice and lots of clients think the name looks like gucci on the packaging lol. I have been very happy with these products they smell wonderfull too. I actually do several types of manicures. Bella mani which is a normal manicure a mini bella mani a mini manicure and a handlift treatment anti aging!! And of course the file and re-varnish.

Hi All
A luxury add-on I use is the hand mask by Mavala. It comes in a tube with about 20 pairs of disposable gloves. The customer rubs some of the mask into the hands and then keeps the gloves on for about 10-15 minutes. When the gloves come off you run the hands under some warm water and the feel of the hands afterwards is absolutely lovely. It's not very expensive and the customer loves it.

I use alessandro and it is the best manicure I have ever used. It is a priscription manicure so you can improve the condition of the nails and actually encourages them to grow by using the prescribed nail hardner to replace the proteins that are missing. When you have finished the cutomer can actually see and feel the improvement of condition of the nail. I feel that the people have the image of having a manicure are for only thows that have nails to paint and thats not nessary true. the add on I genearally use are parafin dips, salt scrubs but more recently, Glycolic acid peels for the hands.

What is a bran scrub and salt scrub. Never taught these at college. How exactly do you do them and what product do you use?

Answers:

hi priderock,
a bran or salt scrub is used to exfoliate the skin on the hands and arms :) Usually, they are mixed with a blend of oils

I use Creative Nail Spa Manicure products, which I find are fantastic. I work in a studio catering exclusively for men, so I had to find something that was relatively gender-neutral, and the Spa Manicure range has a clean, citrus scent which was instantly appealing. It's also fairly no-nonsense, which the clients appreciate.
We offer 2 types of manicure at the studio - a 30 minute basic/maintenance treatment and an extended 60 minute routine that incorporates the full Spa Manicure product range, including an AHA scrub, callous removal and hot towels. We also offer optional add-ons such as a nail blanche, which is popular.
:)

how do you do a nail blanche? I've not heard of this before.

It's just a fancy way of saying "nail whitening" :D
I use a product by Gena called Nail Brite, costs about £5.00 for 120ml. It's a lemon bleaching agent that you scrub under the free edge of the nails with a damp nail brush, leave for a few minutes and then rinse/scrub off. It needs a few goes to make a real difference but can help shift stubborn stains a treat!

Hi
Do you mind if I ask what you omit in the basic manicure?
Also does Nail Brite stink as much as bubble white?! I find that works well removing hair tint, etc from my nails, but it stinks to high heavens!
