aromatherapy & Cancer
Question:

Hi
I am trying to sort out my career at the moment[:@] I work part-time as an aromatherapist:):)(one eve & one morning) and 4 days as a dinner lady[:'(][:'(]. Something I want to stop doing sooner rather than later. I would like to head in the direction of working with cancer patients (using my aromatherapy & reflexology) but have no experience and don't really know where to start. Any suggestions large or small will be greatfully received:D
Hot pepper:)

Answers:

Hello Hot Pepper (now is that you aroma name or your dinner lady name I wonder?)[:-]
I have worked with people with cancer on a voluntary basis and can recommend it to you. Where are you based?
They will usually take you on as a volunteer once you are qualified with insurance (tho the hospice's can be a bit sniffy - my local one was - wanted you to have a year's experience). As it turned out it was for the best coz i ended up at a great place where we all had a laugh despite some sad moments.
Do a search on the internet for local support groups in your area and take it from there, or ask at the hospital, doctor's etc they will know what's going on near you.
You will learn on your feet - bit scarey at first - but very rewarding and fantastic experience. I got chucked right in at the deep end and didn't know who I would get through the door next but it was great fun and I met loads of lovely people there - patients, carers and therapists.
Don't feel that it is difficult work because it is cancer - most people don't want to be miserable even when they are really struggling.
I strongly recommend it to get you started. Good luck!:)
