Reflexology and Fibromyalgia
Question:

Hi I have recently qualified as a reflexologist and one of my new clients suffers from fibromyalgia. Has anyone any tips or experience with working with this/success etc?
All help would be appreciated. :)
Thanks

Hi
I have a couple of clients with Fibro, do you know if she is medicated or not, some people can be highly sensitive so a gentle shortened first session would be my initial advice if they are not medicated and having discomfort, if they are medicated and feeling ok then a normal session would be ok especially if they have tried therapy before and know the effect it can have, please ensure they drink plenty of water and explain some of the side effects in case a healing crisis occurs....

Hi Tigerbee
Thanks for your advice. I saw my client on Friday and did a fairly light session which she said was much less painful than she expected it to be. She is on steroids for asthma and has been for over 20 years but tried to reduce these which is when the fibro started to get much more painful. This was also, I think, around the time she was widowed. She is very lively but in a protective, hiding her pain kind of way if that makes sense so I am hoping that reflex will really benefit her! I did advise her to drink water and explained all about a healing crisis but she said she doesnt like water - so I shall see if she did drink any this week......

Congratulations on qualifying Sky, and welcome to HP. I hope you're enjoying practising reflexology and I'm looking forward to qualifying myself.
It's surprising how many people have a problem with drinking water, as though it's a terrible toxic substance. I gave someone a glass of water after a treatment and he said he couldn't remember the last time he'd had one! Happily, quite a few people I see have started to drink more water and are feeling good for it. Even with those who can't bear to drink water I've suggested alternatives such as sugar free fruit squash, diluted fruit juice and fruit or herbal teas.
Good luck, I hope all goes well with your practice.
Siobhan
