Question:
Wasn't sure whether to put this in Aroma section or pets section so its gone in both!
Our Westie has a skin complaint on her back (I beleive Westies are prone to skin problems, although she's 8 and has never had a problem before)
Her skin looks very pink, when it is normally a dark colour. It feels very thick, hard and inflammed, and it is making her itch a lot. As a result of her constant scratching she has now started to go a bit scabby! Bless her!
Im wondering what the best blend is to make for her, I have read in other pet inquiries that dogs skin is different to ours, so this is obviously going to have some affect on the choice of base - and essential oils in the blend.
I have read that a gel base is ideal...something like an aloe vera gel with a few drops of essential oils maybe?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated from myself and little Rosie! [sm=dogrun.gif][sm=cat.gif]

Hi Emma, this is probably the best forum is you are asking about oils, but I would say, if it were me I would take her to the vet. It could need something more.
But if you want to give it a try would suggest the following:
Two drops of T-tree oil and a two drops of lavender in 5ml of carrier oil. If you could get some calendula oil (or cream) this would help. The cream would be easier to get from Boots or health shop. Give it a try for a few days but if you don't see an improvement I would take her to the vet.
Hi Emma
I also have a Westie and she has the same symptoms as your Rosie. After taking her to the vet (last year) we were told she had Hay Fever which, instead of sneezing like humans do, dogs itch. After gving her an injection it seemed to settle down a lot. This year it has been worse and she rubs herself along the settee and chairs and anywhere she can get to, she has even drawn blood where she scratches. We have had her injected again but it doesnt seem to go completely. I haven't tried oils on her as I know they have sensitive skin. If you find the oils work, please let me know and I will try them on her too. I may even give it a go soon but don't want to make things worse. Good luck
